“As I went out walking this fall afternoon,
I heard a whisper whispering.
I heard a whisper whispering,
Upon this fine fall day…
As I went out walking this fall afternoon,
I heard a laugh a’ laughing.
I heard a laugh a’ laughing,
Upon this fine fall day…I heard this whisper and I wondered,
I heard this laugh and then I knew.
The time is getting near my friends,
The time that I hold dear my friends,
The veil is getting thin my friends,
And strange things will pass through.”
– The Veil is Getting Thinner
October is here! This is my favorite month and our weather has finally taken a turn to the cool here in Delaware. The windows are open, the crows are having raucous parties in the trees, and the leaves are bleeding from green into vivid, Autumnal rainbows. I can almost smell winter on the crisp winds. Pumpkins and gourds are popping up everywhere and I will be heading to the farms in Pennsylvania soon to secure my personal gourd hoard.
The pull of the Ancestors and the Beloved Dead is getting stronger as we wind our way to Samhain. As the veils thin, we naturally seek to tap our roots. The altars are adorned to invite and welcome the Ancestors and the Dark Goddesses who will carry us through winter. Join me for The Beloved Dead: 30 Days of Ancestor Magick which includes daily prompts to sync with the season!
The Goddess Calendar of October is full of ancestor celebrations, times to honor the Dark Goddesses who are stepping forward, Shakti festivals like Durga Puja, and more! I am delighted to welcome Guest Priestess Brandi Auset for our free Goddess Meditation Circle on 10/24 to celebrate Samhain and the Goddess Cerridwen.
We are beginning our month with this potent Full Moon in Aries AND we will be ending October with a second Full Moon that is a BLUE MOON which occurs on Samhain. Talk about powerful! Mary Lomando and Michelle Boxley have both done wonderful articles on the Aries Full Moon for details on how to navigate this lunation. And don’t miss the October Astro-Tarot readings from Audrey Alison!
The ongoing global pandemic, US election, and challenging astrology are adding pressures to our Autumn season this year. We have chaos-fatigue and there has never been a stronger need for us to remember our spiritual practices. Take refuge in the slowing down of the season. The rhythms of Goddess and the season give us space and energy to support grief AND transformation. Seek guidance from your Ancestors. Explore the depths of your soul connection to Goddess and treasure it as sustenance from the coming dark through the inevitable rise of light. Bring your wisdom to bear in your communities and circles to hold space for healing and whatever our BIPOC sisters and brothers need. Extend your presence to those who are lonely and suffering.
Our daily practices, Goddess (as well as our Guides, Allies, and Ancesors), gathering in Community, prayer, and spiritual fortification are all remedies for the transits and retrogrades of Autumn. They are also remedies for the many difficulties of the past few months. In these challenging times, we will come out transformed or not at all. Goddess is waiting.
Mystery School of the Goddess has many new online courses for the season and beyond, as well as more new classes coming. See the newest Mystery School of the Goddess online courses here
The Altars have been very busy here at MotherHouse. Each morning I chant and pray and send out blessings and energy for our Community and beyond. For those who are in the path of the fires, for those who are getting hit with storms and hurricanes, for the Social Activists who are on the front lines, for all those who are suffering and feeling alone, the Goddesses are gathered, the candles are lit, and my chants and prayers are being offered for all of you every single day.
May the Shadow and Light of Goddess illuminate your soul and season!
