Happy New Moon in Leo, and if this happens to be your birthday month, lucky you! We can all feel a bit relieved with no eclipses in sight this month, and the three personal planets (Sun, Moon & Mercury) shining brightly in Leo. This is a great time to de-stress and enjoy the mid-summer’s fresh air and sunshine. Remember back to the major total solar eclipse of August 2017, which was visible across the US exactly three years ago. Eclipses are cosmic “time capsules “of information embedded into consciousness. That three year release of energy is now complete. What have you learned in the past three years about what inspires you? Where has your heart led you? Although 2020 has been a year of testing on many levels, the month of August is opening pathways for the Aquarian energy being birthed at the end of the year. To know where you are going, it is important to know where you have been.

NEW MOON IN LEO AUGUST 18, 2020:
A New Moon means that the Sun and Moon are in the same sign; the perfect time for “seeding” new intentions related to the positive qualities of that sign. This New Moon August 18th falls in the sign of Leo, the sign which rules the heart, self-expression, self-confidence, and the courage to follow your dreams. Leo also symbolizes passion, spontaneity, and the life affirming positive energy of the sun. Leo is the outer expression of our inner child’s need to shine.
What is your passion? What makes your heart sing? What brings you joy? Write down your positive intentions for the New Moon; buy yourself some flowers; donate to a food bank, clothing drive, or animal shelter. Doing something from your heart makes the world a much happier place!
Leo is the sign of self-expression, and nothing makes a Leo happier than being appreciated for his or hers talents and gifts. If you have the Sun, Moon or Ascendant in Leo, this New Moon is the perfect time for you to show your true colors and allow more spontaneity and fun into your life. True self-expression is birthed from self-acceptance. Wherever the sign of Leo falls in your birth chart, signals the area of life in which it is time to express yourself and allow more joy into your life. For example, if the Leo New Moon falls in your second house of money, you may turn a creative hobby into an income stream. If Leo falls in your seventh house, a creative or romantic partnership may be in the offing; a tenth house Leo may have a new professional opportunity arise with the New Moon. No matter where the sign of Leo falls in your chart, it is time to give yourself permission to be you. Think of the feline kingdom (ruled by Leo). Cats do as they please. Cats are comfortable in their bodies, fluid and sensual.
Since Leo rules the physical heart, this is a great time to do more breathing and stretching. Allow the kundalini energy to move freely through your spine clearing and releasing any areas of stuck energy. Find your courage and embrace the new you….the old ways of thinking and acting are not going to work any longer. We now live in a time where alternative healing therapies abound. Meditation, yoga, astrology, shamanic work, reiki, energy healing, aromatherapy, past life regressions and any form of inner journey work all help to ease stress during this time.
The Sun, Moon and Mercury in Leo Trine Mars in Aries: This very positive aspect in fire signs brings up the old adage: “Make hay while the sun shines”! Mercury is upbeat and energetic as he joins the “lights” in Leo making this New Moon the perfect time to set your goals and intentions for the fall. Communication is favored now during this burst of solar energy. Mars brings passion and excitement into the mix. Even if it takes a few weeks for new opportunities to manifest, don’t give up. Leo energy is about self-confidence and taking pride in your accomplishments. Mars in Aries does not take “no” for an answer. This is a time to renew your faith in yourself. Dust off your creative projects that have been sitting on the shelf all year. Whether you are ready to receive an entirely new influx of inspiration, or tweak a previous idea, divine timing is everything. Next month’s Full Moon in Virgo (September 2) will assist in the manifesting inspiration into reality.
Uranus in Taurus Retrograde Sextile Venus in Cancer: Uranus is now officially making its move into retrograde status on August 15 joining the other five planets (including Chiron) in the retrograde parade. Uranus is all about changing the status quo. Our sense of personal security, as well as national, is undergoing a complete (r)evolution. The usual shockwaves caused by Uranus may be somewhat tempered now by this positive aspect with Venus. Venus is the sign of the divine feminine and very much at home here in cozy, comfy Cancer; however, Uranus in Taurus still wants to shake up the status quo. We can expect issues regarding, families, women and children to come up in the news over the next two weeks with women playing significant roles in the changes to come. We have a newly nominated female, multi-racial, vice-presidential candidate of the US. This is definitely a game changer. Uranus will remain retrograde in the security conscious, earth sign (Taurus) for quite some time, so we will be revisiting the financial fluctuations and resulting decisions which came up earlier in the year.
Mars in Aries Square Pluto and Saturn in Capricorn: Mars in Aries, the archetype of the impetuous warrior, is in challenging aspect to both Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn, the indefatigable team of power and authority (think Spartacus going up against the Roman Empire). Aries and Capricorn are cardinal signs; they want what they want. Words and diplomacy don’t work very well right now. Saturn wants to uphold the existing structures; Pluto in Capricorn will use its formidable power of transformation for better or worse. Pluto is at its best building on the ashes of the old. Mars is challenging both of them to action. Both Saturn and Pluto are in retrograde motion, so Mars in Aries we will continue to inflame the same issues that have been around since the beginning of the year.
When Mars in Aries turns retrograde next month, Saturn, Pluto and Jupiter will all come under Martian fire until February 2021. (More to come). The rule of thumb will be to choose your battles wisely, personally and collectively. Scenarios are going to change dramatically between now and February when the wall of Capricorn energy shifts into Aquarius. What may seem impossible, scary or confusing right now will take on a fresh perspective by then.
In ancient Egypt, Bastet (or Bast) was shown as a slim female cat- headed Goddess holding a musical instrument known as the sistrum. She is the softer, more benign aspect of the Goddess Sekhmet. Although both are leonine solar goddesses, and both are Protectresses, Bastet is associated with music, dance, joy and a happy home. She watches over pregnant women, marriages and children. She guards her loved ones as a mother cat watches over her kittens. Whether you are male or female, you can call on her benevolent energy during this New Moon to help you connect with your heart’s desire, open yourself to love, and express your creativity.
May you walk in Truth and Beauty always!
