“We are born of love; Love is our mother.” ~ Rumi
Primordial, elemental, and ancient, The Goddess as Mother can be found in almost every creation myth in almost every culture, and when not featured as the creatrix of all life, She is known as The Divine Feminine essence that supports The Divine Masculine. The Goddess as Mother is often associated with the earth, with nature, with the cycle of birth-death-rebirth, and also with the moon—most especially the full moon, and also her many phases, which reflect this growth cycle of all life, and sometimes with the universe, the cosmos, and as the source all life that we know of.
Other Mother Goddess associations are: creativity, birth, fertility, sexual union, nurturing, nourishment, maternal instinct, and also with animals, which are often thought to have birthed the world into being, such as the serpent, snake, and vulture.
It is The Mother aspect of The Goddess who visions this world, laying Her plans for its architecture at the feet of The God, who is the builder of this world. Together, and forever entwined, they envision, and create all life on earth, but it is from The Feminine aspect of this union that we are born, and it is to Her that we will return at the end of this lifetime. In this way, the heart of The Mother teaches us to surrender, to accept, and to flow along with the beautiful mysteries of life, and to trust this mystery deeply, so deeply, with all that you are.
Within the heart of The Mother we find that She is filled with the purest of love for us, and that here is unconditional acceptance of all that we are, and we find compassion for our perceived failings, and imperfections, and it is from Her heart that receive Her pure love as nourishment, which like a divine, ambrosial nectar, feeds us spiritually, and energetically, filling us with wisdom, and blessings.
Often, the pure, divine love of The Mother is difficult to receive, for we did not know this with our earthly mother, and we did not learn to cultivate this for ourselves. The love of The Mother Goddess shows where we may have wounds, or traumas experienced with our earthly mother, and in this way She leads us into the shadow place of our psyche in order to work through these painful experiences. In the place of the shadow, She becomes like a lioness; protective, guarding, and also patient and supportive as we make our way through the memories.
Through the heart of The Mother, we receive Her love in such a pure, unconditional way, that it can break our own heart wide open—further than it has ever opened before, allowing for more self-love, and can also inspire you to love another in a much deeper way than you may have ever before.
