Hello Everyone,
Welcome to Summer 2020! This month continues with BIG astrological news: a solar eclipse coinciding with the summer solstice, plus five retrograde planets, as Mercury now joins in the cosmic choreography. This line-up of retrogrades coming at the second half of 2020 shows that we are on cosmic “hold” at the moment, giving ourselves the time to stop, rethink, and review exactly what type of reality we are choosing to create.
Although this solar eclipse is not visible in our part of the world, it is of major significance as the longest day of sun light in the northern hemisphere (June 20) is immediately followed by the sun’s eclipse (June 21). This is a major cosmic directive for re-patterning and reprogramming the human bio-computer, and it is coming from the sun itself, the source of all life and light on planet Earth!
As with all major astrological events, cycles flow within cycles – think back to the last set of eclipses in January 2020. What an incredible six months have passed! Eclipses also travel in 19-year patterns and this cycle goes back to the year 2001, the year of 9/11 and the War on Terror which was a major game changer for the USA domestically and internationally. Look at all that has transpired in the world since 2011. What has shifted in your own life since then?
If you feel like time is quickening, it is! Our perception of time may feel disjointed or confusing, as old timelines dissolve and create chaos; however, once change is embraced, chaos dissipates. The only way to step into the New Age/New Earth is to learn from the past and then move on. This summer we are experiencing a major recalibration and push forward into the new paradigm. We are the New Age!

CANCER NEW MOON SOLAR ECLIPSE JUNE 20- 21, 2020
This New Moon, which is also a solar eclipse, falls in the sign of Cancer, the cardinal water sign which rules our feelings, memories, intuition, our connection to mother and family, our lineage roots, our tribe, as well as our connection to the Divine Feminine. Cancer is the nurturing principle in our lives and regardless of gender, we all have emotions, feelings and needs. Esoteric astrology teaches that it is in the sign of Cancer that we emerge from the safety and security of the cosmic womb and give birth to ourselves as the Divine Child. As this New Moon Solar Eclipse also falls within a few hours of the summer solstice (the longest day of the year), we have the opportunity to find greater light and understanding within ourselves and to further work on balancing our inner male/female. If we are not at peace within ourselves, how can we maintain peace outside?
All New Moons are “new beginnings”, this solar eclipse at zero degrees of Cancer on the solstice point is a New Moon with exclamation points! We now get the chance to totally “reboot” old programing and begin a new nineteen year chapter in our lives. Solar eclipses generally deal with outer events and circumstances. You may feel that you are being pushed out of a long-standing comfort zone, but this change is for your growth and development and cannot be avoided. The eclipse sheds light on a situation that you just cannot ignore any longer, even if it takes months to work it all out.
Usually, solar eclipses deal with important male figures in your life (husband, father, boss, etc); but since this eclipse is in the sign of Cancer, it may affect your family or domestic situation in general and your feelings of security and safety. Eclipses can have an extended effect in our lives for six months to a year depending on where they fall in your natal chart. Not everyone experiences or feels an eclipse the same way. If your birthday falls on or within two days of a solar eclipse, it will have more impact for you. The birthdates most affected by this June eclipse fall in the early degrees ( 0 to 6) of Cancer, Capricorn, Aries and Libra. Since the electrical-magnetic energy of the planet is in flux during this day, it is very important to drink lots of water; try to eat fruits and vegetables high in Vitamin C; and stay grounded by spending time in nature, if you can.
The USA is a Cancerian country (born on the 4th of July), and the concepts of life, liberty and freedom are the foundation on which it is built. The Statue of Liberty (our national archetype of the Divine Feminine) holds up the torch of truth which promises these rights to all, not just the privileged few. Both this eclipse and the upcoming lunar eclipse on July 4th will impact the birth chart of the USA. Emotions will run high over the next six to twelve months, as the basic principles of our homeland come up to the light for review. On an individual level, this is NOT a time to indulge in emotional hysteria, violence or blame/shame. The antidote to violence, fear and hate is always the same: love and compassion. The message of this New Moon in Cancer is “Home is where the heart is”. As the indigenous peoples all over the planet have been saying for ages, there is only one way to restore humanity’s balance: Love yourself; love others, and love the Earth as your Mother.
PERSONALLY SPEAKING:
Cancer is the feminine water sign, the “womb of life”, which rules motherhood and family, the tribe, our home, hereditary karmic “roots” and inherited psychological patterns. It is also the sign of the Inner Child. How have you been treating yourself emotionally? Do you deny that you have any emotional needs at all? Are we afraid of being vulnerable? Are you too needy or co-dependent in relationships?
Cancerians have an intense need for security; they tend to wear their emotions on their sleeves, or they may insulate themselves with material comforts as a defense mechanism. We all have heard that Cancerians love to nurture (whether male or female), and are natural empaths, sensitive to the feelings of others. This is because Moon Children are ruled by the subtle currents of the subconscious and make excellent psychics, teachers, artists and writers, as well as psychologists. They also love history and antiques and decorating comes naturally to them.
Psychologically, where the sign Cancer falls in your birth chart (by house placement) is where you are being asked to clear away past emotional clutter and accept your “Divine (Inner) Child” aspect. Since this New Moon is also a solar eclipse, this is a very potent cosmic window of opportunity to set your intentions for the remainder of this year. Find the space and give yourself a few quiet moments reflecting on what is important in your life; what you are thankful for; and what you would like to change in the coming weeks. The sign of Cancer is about home, family and heart – those are good places to start!
PLANETARY PICTURES:
Mars in Pisces Conjunct Neptune in Pisces Sextile Jupiter and Pluto in Capricorn: This is a very positive aspect directing you to breathe new life into your dreams! This may take a bit of tweaking due to all the incoming retrograde activity, but both Jupiter and Pluto in Capricorn offer the staying power and incentive to keep going. Pisces adds a bit more compassion to Capricorn’s final authority, so there may be more government help on the way to those in financial need.
Venus Retrograde in Gemini (May 12 to June 25): The planet Venus is our aesthetic barometer. She measures our likes and dislikes; how we give and receive love; as well as our ability to be in fulfilling relationships. Venus in Gemini loves to socialize. She’s an avid communicator, curious about life, and definitely gets bored easily. Social media is her natural habitat. While Venus is retrograde we get to fine tune our needs and desires, especially in terms of relationships. People from your past may resurface, or you may just be thinking about past relationships, what worked and what did not. Traditionally, retrograde Venus is not the best time for starting a serious new relationship, but it is fine for meeting friends and socializing. It is also a good time for cleaning up old mental clutter and clearing space for the new post-eclipse energy coming in.
Mercury Retrograde in Cancer (June 18 to July 12):
This Mercury retrograde is tricky, as it comes in riding the wave of the Venus retrograde. On a personal level, we are all ready to emerge from the solitude of the past few months and socialize with friends, spend more time at public venues, and perhaps, even travel again. You may also be feeling the urge to initiate new ideas and projects; however, the Mercury retrograde period (beginning June 18 to July 12) urges us to still be mindful and aware that “the new normal” has not yet been established. As previously mentioned, Venus retrograde has to do with resetting our emotional compass: our likes, dislikes, values, expenditures, etc. Recheck your intel, if you need to make any major purchases this month (home appliances, cars, computers, etc); small purchases are fine, just keep your receipts and warranties. This is also not the best time to sign on the dotted line for buying or selling a home, until after the retrograde period ends. If you can’t put it off, be clear on your negotiations upfront, definitely go over ALL the fine print, be prepared to have one or two delays.
Mercury in Cancer has a very emotional theme, so as with Venus, people or situations from your past may resurface, and you may be feeling more sentimental about friends and family. Dreams and memories may come up regarding friends, lovers, and relatives from your earlier years. This is a great time to take care of any unresolved issues from the past.
Mercury in Cancer loves the water, so enjoy swimming, fishing or boating, but please be safe and aware. Mercury in Cancer is also the sign of writers and actors, so indulge your passion. Begin a dream journal, diary, or blog. Throw a classic movie watch party with friends. Some of the most famous character actors have Mercury in Cancer: Nicole Kidman, Tom Hanks, Harrison Ford, Judy Garland, and of course, Donald Trump. The natal chart of the USA also has Mercury in Cancer, so during the next few weeks we will be rehashing old events from our national history, such as slavery, the confederacy, the civil rights movement, the Constitution, and much more to come as the asteroid Chiron (the Wounded Healer) continues its square with Mercury speaking out about old hurts and wounds.
New Moon in Cancer Sextile Uranus in Taurus:
On an upbeat note, the New Moon in Cancer makes a positive aspect (sextile) with the planet,Uranus in Taurus. This means pleasant surprises may be in store. The themes coming up: innovative new ideas, insights, inventions and more freedom to be creative, especially in arts and technology. We may see women taking on a more active role in civil rights, women’s legislation, and politics, as well as the announcement of the first female vice presidential candidate. Both Cancer and Taurus are concerned with putting food on the table; so this is a positive sign for more stimulus checks on the way and positive news for the food/restaurant industry in general. On a personal level, this is a good time to explore things like astrology, energy healing and other alternative modalities. It is time to step out of the box and feel re-energized.
Blessings, Mary
