This New Moon coincides with Earth Day, and during this time of planetary re-calibration, we are reminded that we are the stewards of this beautiful planet and Mother Earth. The New Moon in Taurus asks that we devote more time to improving our health and quality of life, since we can no longer ignore the fact that our physical bodies are our temples, and need to be respected, appreciated and loved. The same is true for our relationship to Mother Earth. We are all One; all life is precious. The frequency of love, compassion, and kindness is powerful medicine. Can we imagine a world where Love spreads faster than a virus?

NEW MOON IN TAURUS April 22, 2020
All New Moons signify renewal and new beginnings; new seeds are planted for the month. What would you like to create for yourself over the coming weeks? This month’s New Moon falls in the Earth sign Taurus, which rules the five perceptual senses; our groundedness in the physical world, and our connection to Mother Nature and our bodies. The ruler of the sign Taurus is the planet Venus, which represents what we love and value most in life. Venus expresses how we give and receive love. Taurus also rules the throat chakra and our “voice”. Our words are important. Mantras, music, singing and toning all help to channel positive energy through the throat chakra. In ancient Egypt, the Goddess Hathor ruled over the sign of Taurus and the constellation of the Pleiades. Her initiates were taught that “the Body is the Temple, and Sound is the Key”. Wise words to remember.
You will feel this New Moon wherever you have the sign Taurus falling in your birth chart. Taurus is a feminine earth sign ruled by Venus; her motto is “Make love, not war”. The Moon in Taurus is your comfort zone; it is where you find your “security blanket”. The Moon in Taurus is represented by the Great Earth Mother, nurturing and safe. Taureans appreciate the finer things in life, and usually take great pride in what they create. Taurean talents can be expressed through singing, art, dance, fashion, architecture, and especially food.
Because feeling secure is so important for Taureans, they can be very adept in the financial world of banking, stocks, and real estate. The down side of Taurus is that they may become too possessive of their material possessions, especially money. Whenever we feel insecure, we are more prone to hoard things. Do the opposite. Give away what you do not need. It is a service to others and good karma for yourself!
It is said that Taurus is the sign of the “green thumb”! Since most of us are experiencing spring weather now, a good use of the Taurean energy is to spend as much time in nature as you can. Walk outside (with health protocols in place, of course) and listen to the birds sing; it improves and totally uplifts your mood. If you don’t have a garden, then buy a plant or flower for inside your home or apartment. Having something alive and beautiful in your space is very healing.
Texture, touch and taste are all important to the Taurean nature. Now is an excellent time to experiment with your culinary skills. Even if we are “home alone” during this time, cooking for yourself and loved ones can be relaxing, enjoyable and good therapy. Things that come from the earth are also under the rulership of Taurus: gemstones, crystals, flowers and plant medicines. Since the throat chakra and our voice is ruled by Taurus, listen to your favorite music, sing, chant, drums as great ways of using your Taurean gifts.
Mercury in Aries Square Pluto and Jupiter in Capricorn:
This square means that the challenges of the Saturn /Pluto conjunction earlier in the year are not yet over. Mercury in Aries (our thought processes) can become impatient with Capricorn’s seriousness and “tough love” lessons. We may have a tendency to brood over things and feel more pessimistic over problems that seem to never go away. Use whatever is at your disposal to keep a positive attitude. Read a good book; learn something new on U-tube or Zoom; watch “upbeat” movies; stay in contact with friends and family on social media; and above all, keep your sense of humor intact. We all know these are especially stressful times; the news just seems to get worse each day.
The operative issue here (Jupiter in Capricorn) is that we do not give up, but continue to have faith in ourselves (and whatever spiritual practice we honor) in order to move past these obstacles. On a daily basis, it is important to be flexible and to forgive ourselves and others for any perceived past “wrongs”. One of the biggest lessons of Taurus is self-love (not selfishness) tempered with compassion. Separation, whether caused by religious, political or cultural stereotyping, will be overcome as more humans realize that we are co-creators of our New Earth.
As the unpredictable planet of change, Uranus, passes through the sign of Taurus over the next years, our greatest lesson is to let go and let love!
Sun, Moon and Uranus in Taurus Square Saturn in Aquarius:
With both the luminaries conjunct Uranus (unexpected changes), there is a tendency to act and think irrationally, making hasty fear-based decisions. We will see this played out in the news as political leaders jump to reopen the economy prematurely.
With Saturn in the mix, the changes are “heavy” , and news is still depressing. These are “fixed” signs; nothing feels like it is moving anytime soon, and the restlessness and impatience will grow. We see this in news of emotional demonstrations and protests. These are not likely to lessen over the coming weeks. The positive news with Uranus and the Moon together is that we may see new and innovative ideas coming from women to change the status quo. Notice how women journalists are taking a tougher stance with the President during the daily White House press briefings!
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING: In ancient Egypt, the Goddess Hathor was the goddess of Love, Joy, Sensuality, Beauty, the Arts, and Astrology. She was known in later times as Aphrodite (Greece) and Venus (Rome); and as such, she is the ruler of the sign Taurus and considered to also be a symbol of the fertile Earth Mother Goddess (Empress in the Tarot ). By working with Hathor’s energy, we are able to bring more joy and love into our lives.
Meditation for Moon in Taurus with the Egyptian Goddess Hathor:
You may want to prepare for this meditation with a relaxing bath or shower. Light a white, pink or red candle. Find a comfortable position where your body feels at ease. Close your eyes and begin to breathe deeply.
Concentrate on a golden ball of energy floating above you, and encircling you from the soles of your feet to the top of your head. Continue breathing. Feel the golden spiral of energy spinning inside your heart chakra and filling your body from the inside out with a warm glow. As your body begins to feel lighter, you see the form of a beautiful woman standing before you. This is Hathor, the Egyptian Goddess of beauty, love and music. She wears a long, shimmering white garment graced with a blue lotus necklace made from pure turquoise and gold. In one hand, she holds a metal rattle, called the sistrum; its sound banishes all negative vibrations. In her other hand, she holds the sacred blue lotus, the symbol of immortality. On her dark hair sits the royal sun-disc crown as worn by the Queens of ancient Egypt; for she is also the Great Mother, the primordial feminine energy from which all life is nurtured and to which all life returns.
As your inner perception becomes more attuned to her radiance, you hear the soft rattle of her sistrum, and her sweet voice chanting your name very softly. As you listen to the sound of her voice blending harmoniously with the sistrum, your body begins to vibrate to a new healing frequency, resonating like a tuning fork. This is your own personal tone. You feel your heart expand; your throat open; you feel less burdened. Hathor sings her song just for you, and your body knows how to translate it. You allow these sounds to rest within your cells for as long as you need. You feel rested and replenished.
As you open your eyes, you see that Hathor has left you a gift, her beautiful Blue Lotus.
Her message rings in your ears: “May you always live in Truth and Walk in Beauty!”
