Happy Valentine’s Day, and Happy Leo Full Moon in the fire sign of Leo! The New Year 2020 began with quite a flurry of astrological activity with the January 10th eclipse and the Saturn/Pluto conjunction of January 12th.
For more on the 2020 eclipses check out my podcast on Motherhouse of the Goddess:
By comparison, February is a relatively “quiet” astrological month. It is a good month to “refresh” your New Year’s intentions and see what’s been working for you. Although Valentine’s Day is an overly commercialized celebration of Love, it is the thought that counts. We all want to be loved and appreciated. Try something new; give yourself a Valentine!

THE FULL MOON IN LEO FEBRUARY 8, 2020
February’s Full Moon falls in the sign of Leo emphasizing creativity, self-expression, and the courage to follow your dreams. Leo is a fire sign, and symbolizes passion, joy, and the life affirming energy of the sun. The great Sphinx of Giza, the guardian of the pyramids, once had the face of a lion to symbolize the Age of Leo. The symbol of the Lion (Leo) has been used by royalty for ages; we even call our heroes “Lion-hearted”. This Full Moon emphasizes our Heart energy, creativity and passion. Where do we find our joy in life; and even more importantly, are we able to express it? Heart blockages can occur on many different levels. Long standing resentments, bitterness, and martyrdom can close down the heart chakra. Working on developing tolerance, compassion for others, and self-love works wonders for opening the heart. We may experience themes related to love, self-expression, creativity, and children (Leo rules the “inner child”) during this Full Moon time period.
If your Sun, Moon or Ascendant falls in the sign of Leo, you will be more sensitive to the energy of this Full Moon. This is the time to let your inner child “shine”. Nothing makes a Leo personality happier than being appreciated. They love to have fun and can be generous to a fault; however, the shadow side of Leo can manifest as an over-inflated ego, and the need to be the center of attention ALL of the time. Leo is the natural entertainer and performer of the zodiac. They are usually upbeat personalities who strive for recognition and often become famous. Famous Moon in Leo personalities are: Tom Cruise, Julia Roberts, David Bowie, Megan Fox, Paul McCartney and Paris Hilton, to name a few.
Full Moons are about manifesting your intentions. This Full Moon in Leo is about having the courage to create your heart’s desire, and express your authentic self. What is your passion? What feeds your soul? Follow your Heart. Think of the feline kingdom (ruled by Leo). Cats do as they please; cats are comfortable in their bodies, fluid and free. If you have the Sun, Moon or Ascendant in Leo, this is the perfect time for you to show your true colors and allow more spontaneity and joy into your life. The house Leo occupies in your birth chart shows where you can become more playful and creative. For example: if the Full Moon in Leo falls in your First House of Personality, you may feel very social and out-going. If the Full Moon in Leo falls in your 4th House of home and family, you may feel like entertaining or hosting a party at home….in the 7th House of relationship, you may want a romantic evening with your partner. We all have Leo somewhere in our charts!
Jupiter in Capricorn Sextile Neptune in Pisces and Trine Vesta in Taurus: During this time, Jupiter, the King of the Gods, makes positive aspects to both Neptune, the planet of spirituality and compassion, and Vesta, the Goddess asteroid associated with meditation, devotion and ritual in the sign of Taurus, the Earth Mother. This denotes a positive time for renewal and optimism; a time for remaining centered in the midst of chaos. Since Jupiter is related to philosophy and religion, this is perfect time to renew or implement a spiritual practice in our lives. It is also the time to ask what we can do as individuals, and as a collective society, to honor the earth. Small steps can a big difference. Create a sacred space in your home for quiet reflection, follow a healthy diet, spend time in nature, and practice “gratitude” whenever possible.
Mercury Retrograde Pisces/Aquarius:
On February 16, Mercury will go into retrograde motion until March 9 and changes to Pisces on March 17. At the beginning of March, we may find ourselves dealing with issues “on the rebound” from the last Mercury in Aquarius cycle (mid – January to Feb 4th). In general this is not the best time to purchase that new smart phone, expensive computer, or the latest high tech gadget. Wait until after the retrograde period is over. Pisces is a water sign, and Aquarius is air; neither is very grounded, so it is important to stay focused and centered during this time. Scattered thinking is a characteristic that both Pisces and Aquarius share. On a positive note, Mercury in Pisces rules creative, artistic and spiritual pursuits. Aquarius rules the world of technological, science and “the new age”. It can be a very interesting combination of right/left brain communication. Pay attention to your dreams for messages, since both signs Pisces and Aquarius are very intuitive.
