We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves. ~ Gautuma Buddha
The Moon is FULL in Scorpio on Saturday, May 18 at 5:12pm. The effects of the Full Moon are most potent within three days before or after. This Moon is also called the Flower Moon and the Wesak Moon (which is on Sunday, May 19.
Scorpio is a fixed/water/feminine sign. Scorpio energies sink us into the inner realms, deep mysteries, initiation, the occult, magick, hidden energies, and sexuality. The shadow side of Scorpio is jealousy, fear, obsession, the shadow side of sexuality, power and control over others, and secrets. Water Scorpio plays deeply on our emotions and brings intensity to everything. There always seems to be a caveat, a sting, to Scorpio; think of that tail!
I wish I could say that this Full Moon is light and playful, but in keeping with the heavier astrological energies of the past few weeks, the intensity continues. We are being called to release and transform. Old wounds, past traumas may resurface to be acknowledged and released. Let me repeat that bit – acknowledged and released. There is no need to relive these wounds or traumas. Allow the waters to wash them away.
Transformation comes when we replace the energies of the past with new energy. By acknowledging what we are releasing, we can consciously replace that energy with intentional forward movement and blessings. The retrogrades of Saturn and Pluto at the end of April, as well as aspects of the South Node, are giving us the keys to what needs to be replaced, to karmic patterns that need to go.
Although Scorpio is an often misunderstood and feared sign, there is no denying that Her power allows us to dig deep and conquer what others thought to be impossible. The need to understand every aspect of a thing, to capture its essence and distill that awareness into potent medicine is the single-pointed sting of Scorpio’s nature. Revealing themselves only to those who are worthy, the Water sign ruled by Mars takes no shit and neither should you. ~ Sam Belyea (he does an amazing daily astrological analysis on Facebook!)
The Scorpio Moon also helps us in this deep dive by connecting us to our Inner Goddess or Inner Guru. We carry the wisdom healing and transformation within us. We have everything that we need. We just need to access the answers that are waiting and, accordingly, be prepared to step in to the healing. This process allows us to rewrite the stories that we tell ourselves, the ones that have caused deep patterns of loss, stagnation, and fear. Are you ready to recreate yourself as your most authentic and creative self?
There are some super interesting aspects to this Moon.
This full moon is opposite algol- the fixed star connected to medusa! she is the epitome of female passion and intensity! she is also a VERY POWERFUL Dark Goddess who can see into the shadows and see what others do not want to be seen.
the contemporary version of medusa’s myth is a patriarchal re-write as pre-patriarchy she was a powerful, beautiful and loved Goddess. she can be understood symbolically when we remember that the snakes in her hair are an ancient symbol of chthonic power, the ancient primordial Goddess and the capacity to navigate the Underworld. her capacity to make someone turn to stone when looking at her is symbolic of her ability to see through the ego and shatter it. she gets beyond the facade and she gets to the Truth. adding her potent seer-ing power to this lunation is POWERFUL. ~ Divine Harmony
Algol is also associated with Lilith. Both Lilith and Medusa have had to be reclaimed from brutal vilification by the patriarchy. Lilith is feminine power incarnate and through her screech owl, She empowers our voices, especially in the cases of the oppression of women. Hello, ALABAMA???
Medusa shows us where we are paralyzed and unable to move forward. Snake energy is heavily connected to the chthonic deities (of the Earth) and is also a messenger for the Ancestors.
Can you see how supported we are even with all of this watery, emotional intensity?
If you feel overwhelmed, stop what you are doing and breathe. Have grounding practices ready to go or simply go out and lay skin to skin on the Earth, Gaia. Be prepared for triggers over the next few days and have antidotes on hand. I think a bowl of ice cream and Netflix are satisfactory antidotes. Gathering with your women friends with good food and lots of laughter eases the intensity as well! Self care should be a priority.
Be Well, Gorgeous Ones. Be Brave. Be Happy. Be Renewed.
Goddess is standing by to support and guide us. You are never alone.

GODDESS: Japanese Shinto Goddess UZUME
Uzume is the gorgeous, full-bodied Shinto Shaman, Jiggling Joyful Jokester, Bawdy Babe of Bliss, Goddess of Laughter, and Transformer! Uzume intervened when the Japanese Goddess of the Sun, Amaterasu, hid in a cave and would not come out and shine Her light on the Earth. The Gods pleaded with Amaterasu to return – the Earth was dying without Her light. Outside the cave, Uzume flipped a barrel, jumped on top, and began a jiggling, bawdy dance that sent all the Gods into roars of laughter. Amaterasu emerged from the cave to see what the laughter was all about, caught sight of Herself in a mirror for the first time, and was transfixed. The Gods secured the entrance to the cave so that Amaterasu could not hide again and so returned the light of the Sun to the Earth. Uzume and laughter saved the day!
Uzume is dancing Her way into this lunation to create more opportunities for laughter. The retrogrades of Saturn and Pluto and other cosmic aspects like South Node, Chiron, Neptune, and Uranus have made the energy quite heavy in the past few weeks. Plus, a Full Moon in Scorpio is not really considered a gentle or “light” moon. Let Uzume lighten things up for you!
Laughter burns calories, reduces stress hormones, floods our body with healthy oxygen, and reduces our blood pressure. Getting the giggles is natural therapy for wellness. Seek out friends and family that make you laugh. Have a Goddess Gathering with the intent purpose of invoking Uzume. The tradition of women gathering to talk, share stories, and laugh together is not only a social tradition, but a sacred one as evidenced by Uzume and Her Greek sister, Baubo. Laugh it up and let Uzume bring you some healing!
ORACLE CARDS: LUNA and LABOR
With the Full Moon in Scorpio, we are definitely feeling all the emotional, watery aspects of the Moon and Scorpio. Luna provides us with her tides and rhythms, a sacred ebb and flow that allows us to do our “work” and also time to rest and recover. The crystals recommended for this lunation are all closely tied to Luna and invite us to sync with her waxing and waning. Remember, the Full Moon is the culmination and just after, we move into the waning cycle that ends in the Dark Moon.
I love the symbolism on the Labor card. The word “labor” is not just associated with toil and work, but also reminds us of the labor of birth. What are you bringing to fruition under the influence of this Full Moon? Are there goals that perhaps need more work until they are ready to be birthed?
Bees know all about work and accomplishment. Look at what it takes to make honey? And bee symbology brings us right back to Goddess:
In the time of ancient Greece, and particularly in the temples of Artemis, Aphrodite, Demeter but also of Cybele, Diana and Rhea, priestesses were called the Melissae, which translates as ‘the bees.’ The Goddess as the Great Mother was sometimes titled Melissa, literally, ‘the Queen Bee.’ Some classical sources describe these priestesses as young and virgin, others tell us the designation of Melissae was a title of honor, bestowed due to devotion and labor for the Great Mother by a certain individual, which was above and beyond the ordinary. The Pythian oracular priestess at Delphi was known as the Delphic Bee, and the emblem of a bee was placed on Delphic coins in her honor. Bees sometimes appear on the statues of Artemis, and the officiates at Eleusis during the celebration of the Mysteries were called Bees. (Mirror of Isis)
Some of the Goddesses strongly associated with Bees: Anatolian Mother Goddess, Bhramari Devi, Oshun, Artemis of Ephesus, Freya, Potnia, Gaia
The Earthbound Oracle is available from Red Wholistic (and I adore this mini card set! It is a great deck to spark inspiration and intuition.)
ORACLE CARD: WHITE WILLOW – The Ways of Water
This Full Moon in Scorpio is saturated but Willow reminds us of her roots and flexibility.
“Most people think of Willow as graceful and soft, a beautiful tree with weak wood. She’s happy to let you have your delusions. But underground she sends her expansive roots questing for water, the element of emotion, which feeds her extraordinary flexibility … Pliancy allows her to have great empathy without becoming overwhelmed by the emotions of others. Instead they flow through her like water.” ~ from The Illustrated Herbiary
Scorpio calls us to go DEEP, just like the roots of Willow. Our inner realms are a source of wisdom and knowledge for the expansion of our spiritual work. We do not have to relive those experiences that were emotional or traumatic; we accept the ways of water and the magick of Willow to allow them to move through us and out to be cleared.
Willow, Saille, is the fifth month in the Celtic Tree Calendar, April 15 – May 12. It is a sacred tree to Druids and Witches.
Willow relates to Monday, the activity of bees and is often used as a honey Tree. The birds associated with Saille are the Hawk and the Thrush, the animals are the Hare and the Cat. Herbs most commonly associated are Moonwort, Primrose and Mistletoe. She is one of the Seven Sacred Irish Trees and is also a sacred Druid Tree.
In Sumer, 4000 BCE, Ishtar’s predecessor, Belili, was known as the Willow Mother. In the ancient Greek mythos, Willow is sacred to several Underworld Goddesses – Persephone, Circe, Hera and Hecate. Also in relation to this Tree are the Gods and Goddesses Artemis, Ceres, Mercury and Belenos. Again in Greek history, the Great Bear, Callisto, was also called Helice, meaning both that which turns and Willow branch. Helicon was the mountain home of the Nine Muses who inspire the arts and sciences.
Saille has further connection to the Death Goddesses for the Celts. Morgan le Fay, Cailleach and the Morrighan are symbolized by Willow. These Goddesses represent the darker and misunderstood components of the psyche that require our greater understanding and recognition.
White Willow is not the same as Weeping Willow, so make sure you clarify when you are acquiring it. White Willow has many magickal uses. It is one of the three woods used to make a traditional besom. As well, it may be used in incense blends for divination, healing, and to carry prayers to Goddess. Connect with White Willow to expand your psychic gifts and clairvoyance.
Cards are included with The Illustrated Herbiary by Maia Toll
