There are times when the Goddess whispers your name, then there are other times when she screams it. If you are like me, these times came early to your young ears, hungry and yearning to know more. The voice came in quiet places, secret places, where your soul and spirit felt free.
As time and tide wears on us, sometimes we forget to seek out and listen to the voice of the Goddess again. People should try to reconnect the during the broken moments of their life, and allow their remaining selves to blossom. Many people have unfortunately become separated from their own spirituality, especially on a daily basis. When I teach workshops about spirituality and describe my own practice, people often gripe that they don’t have enough time. I even had someone who was part of my work with prison ministry tell me he didn’t have enough time. Consider the cost if are you dedicating your time to other pursuits. Negative thinking, worry, and busywork can take up a lot of time. As Queen Latifah said “You going to love yourself or you going to hate yourself? What are you going to do?” People get distracted, no one seems to have enough time. But there are lots of things you can do to find and welcome the Goddess into your life in small or large ways.
The first thing to start with is to decide if you are going to work on improving your connection with the Goddess in general, or in specific. Many people dedicate themselves to one particular Goddess. For example many people in African Traditional Religions initiate, and become in essence a daughter or son of that energy. In Norse traditions individuals sometimes work to become a Priestess of Freya or one of the other deities. But you can also working on improving your relationship with the Goddess in general. The following are a few simple ways you can do this on your own or with a group.
One of the best ways to honor the Goddess in your life is with an altar, or shrine. These can be small, constructed in a mint tin or a cigar box to shield them from unfriendly eyes and also to make them portable. Alternatively, they can be large and take shape in an entire room or even outdoors. This is one of the simplest and also the most powerful things you can do to strengthen your connection to any Goddess or just the divine feminine forces in the universe.
An altar or shrine will help you create a space to welcome the Goddess energy into your home, but what about strengthening that bond even when you are out and about? This can be done by creating an oil to wear throughout the day. The first thing to do is start with a carrier oil, such as olive oil or sweet almond oil. Then you will need a glass bottle to mix in. Next you will assemble to other oils you will be working with. It is common practice to use an odd number of ingredients in your magickal workings, this is believed to make them more effective. There are many books that can help, such as the classic The Magickal Formulary Spellbook by Herman Slater, or you can do a simple search online to find out which oils and botanicals relate to the Goddess you are working with. Add the oils one at a time, focusing on the Goddess, and also your specific intent for this blend. When you are finished blending, rub the oil bottle between your hands to charge it up with your own energy. Now it is ready for use. You can wear this oil everyday or save it for special occasions when you are specifically focusing your energy on the Goddess.
There are many more ways to connect with the Goddess when you hear her calling your name, but these few are a good start. For more information please consider checking out my book 55 Ways to Connect to Goddess.
