FULL MOON ECLIPSE IN LEO: JANUARY 31, 2018
This Full Moon in Leo is not only a Super Full Moon, but a total lunar eclipse, as well. It is also a “blue moon”, which means that it is the second full moon occurring this month. (January 1st was Full Moon in Cancer). This January 2018 eclipse is an extension of the total Leo Solar Eclipse last August. Think back to any events, people and situations that have come into your life or changed since August 20, 2017. How has your world shifted since then? There is a cycle of completion in operation here, until the next Solar Eclipse (New Moon) on Feb 15th.
Occurring in the sign of Leo, this Full Moon emphasizes our Heart energy, creativity and passion…a “total eclipse of the Heart”! Where do we find our joy in life; and even more importantly, are we able to express it? Heart blockages can occur on many different levels. Long standing resentments, bitterness, and martyrdom can close down the heart chakra. Working on developing tolerance, compassion for others, and self-love works wonders for opening the heart. Eclipses occur in 19 year cycles. We experienced a lunar eclipse at the same degree (11 degrees Leo) approximately 19 years ago (1999). Themes related to love, self-expression, creativity, and children (Leo rules the “inner child”) may crop up again for review.
Although a Lunar eclipse does not have quite the “punch” as a solar eclipse, it nonetheless has a very powerful effect on our emotions and our automatic response mechanisms. During any eclipse, the natural “light” is blocked for the duration of the eclipse; during these phenomena, our human (and planetary) bio-energetic fields “collapse and get re-booted”. An “eclipse” means something must end, so that something new may be created. What part of our old self needs to “die”, so that we may move forward?
Use the timing of this eclipse wisely. Meditate if you can; insights, dreams and synchronicities may hold important information from your higher self over the coming weeks. A new chapter is beginning as the old one closes.
This Lunar eclipse falls in the sign of Leo, the Divine Child. Leo emphasizes creativity, self-expression, and the courage to follow your dreams. Leo is a fire sign, and symbolizes passion, joy, and the life affirming positive energy of the sun. Where is your heart drawing you at this time? What does your inner child want to create, to feel? Eclipses travel in 19 year cycles. What was happening in your life in 1999? There is a message there for you during this eclipse.
The ancient astrologers believed that it was better not make any important life decisions around lunar eclipses. The reasoning for this is that deeply held subconscious attitudes may influence your rational decision making process; therefore, it is better to postpone making important emotional decisions, as your plans may not work out as expected. (Solar Eclipses tend to be more outer- event oriented; things happen, sometimes very unexpectedly. You may feel, circumstances, decisions have a certain “fated” quality to them.) Watch who comes into your life, or leaves (especially women) around this eclipse, since the moon rules the important women in our lives.
On a transformational and psychological level, eclipses are associated with the unmasking of something which has been hidden. Secrets are exposed. In the heart-opening sign of Leo, this is an opportunity to ask for the courage to love unconditionally, to clear any blockages of fear and distress which have shut down our creative energy. As is true for any native with planets in Leo, pay close attention to the condition of your physical heart during this time.
On a personal level, if this eclipse falls on or near your birthday, this will be a very important year for you. Lunar eclipses have a way of clearing the emotional debris in our lives, which will also prepare us for the New Moon Solar Eclipse coming up next month. “Letting go” is the message.
Once again, think of the 19 year cycle rule. What was happening in your life in 1999? Have you been true to yourself? Nothing makes a Leo happier than being appreciated for his or hers talents and gifts. What is your passion? What feeds your soul? Think of the feline kingdom (ruled by Leo). Cats do as they please…cats are comfortable in their bodies, fluid and free.
If you have the Sun, Moon or Ascendant in Leo, this Full Moon eclipse is the perfect time for you to show your true colors and allow more spontaneity and fun into your life. Wherever the sign of Leo falls in your birth chart, this Full Moon eclipse signals the time to express yourself and allow more joy into your life
This Full Moon is conjunct the asteroid Ceres (Earth Mother), as well as the North Node in Leo, signifying that our karmic destiny points to an increased appreciation and love for our Mother Earth and all her values; healing, compassion, loving our bodies and the Earth will contribute to the overall well-being and evolution of this planet. Ignoring this message only perpetuates the cycle of abuse, denial and suffering.
Mercury moves into the sign of Aquarius just after the lunar eclipse. As the “Messenger” of the gods, he is here to instruct us that super-science and technology are not our only solutions as humans. (Should we be allowed to self-destruct, just because we can?) Using our intuition in alignment with our hearts will allow for a broader “bandwidth” of vision; raising the bar on the next phase of our evolutionary development.
