The use of herbs can be a powerful addition to any self-care ritual. Herbs and plants are humanity’s first form of medicine, and the basis of many of the pharmaceuticals on the market today.
Every culture throughout the world uses plants and flowers to treat illness and heal a variety of issues.Herbal remedies may be ingested or applied topically in the form of teas, ointments, extracts, tinctures, and capsules, depending upon the ailment being treated.
On the magickal side, much like crystals, each herb, plant, and flower carries a specific vibration of energy, which can be harnessed for a variety of spiritual purposes.
Here is a list of herbs to tap into pleasure, joy, and sensuality, which also have medicinal value to strengthen the body and promote healing:
Chamomile – known to promote relaxation and a restful sleep, as well as relieving heartburn and indigestion. In the magickal, chamomile is used in beauty rituals, and to help the practitioner develop a sweet disposition.
Clove – an antiseptic, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory herb. Clove is often used as a numbing agent and remedy for dentistry issues. Magickally, clove is used as an aphrodisiac, a libido enhancer, and to add “spice” to relationships
Garlic – used to treat fungal and viral infections, regulate the blood pressure, and boost the immune system. In the magickal, garlic is used as an aphrodisiac, and in spells to enhance sexual health.
Ginger – an anti-inflammatory and antibacterial, generally used for nausea and to settle an upset stomach, as well as for weight loss. Magickally, ginger is used to add heat and power to any spell or ritual, and it is used beauty practices and as a sexual stimulant and libido enhancer. Ginger is also used to promote joy and laughter.
Hibiscus – relief from high blood pressure and high cholesterol, as well as digestive system, immune system, and inflammatory problems. It can also speed up the metabolism and promote weight loss. As a magickal tool, hibiscus is used to induce lust and sensual desires, to enhance beauty, and to stimulate the natural lubrication of the yoni.
Peppermint – a digestive aid and headache remedy. In magickal use, peppermint inspires joy and lifts the spirits, as well as attracts new lovers and strengthens self confidence.
Rose and rose hips – a huge source of vitamin C that boosts the immune system, as well as an astringent and blood cleanser. Also known to help with depression, anxiety, PMS and menopausal issues. Magickally, roses have one of the highest vibrations on the planet. They are used in love and beauty rituals, and to inspire, attract, and hold romance.
Turmeric – an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimutagenic herb that is often used in cancer and Alzheimer’s treatments. Magickally, turmeric is used in beauty rituals to brighten the skin and attract admires, and ingested to promote happiness and wellbeing.
A tincture is one of my favorite ways to get both the medicinal and magickal uses of herbs. A liquid mixture of herbs and alcohol, a single dropper-full of tincture is as effective as a cup of tea. You can find them in any health-food store as well as online, or you can make your own!
