We all grow up with the weight of history on us. Our ancestors dwell in the attics of our brains as they do in the spiraling chains of knowledge hidden in every cell of our bodies. ~Shirley Abbott
Join the Goddess Full Moon Group for a celebration and discussion of Calling the Ancestors! We will be discussing Ancestor Worship, ancient sources and modern practice, types of ancestors, and leading a New Moon influenced meditation. Gather with community on both sides of the veil and begin your Samhain celebration a bit early!
Brandi Auset and I lead the Goddess Full Moon Group every month, as well as some special Goddess Wheel celebrations (like this one), and it includes discussion of the featured Goddess, a guided meditation, and a chat with Q&A after the meditation. This is free to sign up!
Traditionally in the Pagan Wheel of the Year, Samhain (October 31) is the Celtic New Year and is considered to be the most powerful time of the year to commune with our Beloved Dead and Ancestors. The veils are thin and allow for messages to cross easily between the worlds. Not just for the Celts but for many cultures and traditions, this is the time of the year that has rituals of remembrance for the Dead: Day of the Dead (Dia de Los Muertos) in Mexico, All Soul’s Day in Christian traditions, Fete Gede in Haiti, Winter Nights of the Asatru, and more.
While we certainly can celebrate our Ancestors and Beloved Dead at anytime throughout the year, Samhain just happens to be one of the most potent times to connect. Working with the Ancestors is a vital component to many practices and traditions. As the saying goes, we cannot know who we are until we know where we come from.
Blessings on you and your Ancestors!
