Doing the Goddess Devotions each week has become a beautiful and centering practice. I was at the market looking at the flowers, still unsure of which Goddess was going to step forward, when the coral roses caught my eye. Hints of chocolate, sunshine, waterfalls, and the faint coppery smell of blood were swirling around my senses. And then Ix Chel stepped forward. One of my favorite Mamas. She came to me years ago with her dragonflies as I was in a bitter separation with my husband. Ix Chel knows all about bitter separations and being with the wrong partner. The Sun God actually cast her from heaven in a jealous rage and she was regenerated, rebirthed by the magick of the dragonflies.
Ix Chel brings us empowerment, support for when our situations are untenable, and a constant, abiding presence of LOVE, reminders that you ARE good enough. You ARE enough in every way. We pray and petition her for strength, courage, protection, and for healing. As a triple Goddess, her influence is far-ranging and delves into every facet of woman.
Lady of the Rainbow, Weaver of the World, Goddess of Becoming, I place my petition, my prayer of creation into your hands. Goddess Ix Chel, I ask for your presence now to make my prayer manifest in my life. Together, we breathe our power into it. Through you, I have the courage to take action on it. Bring your Medicine, your Wisdom, your Fertile Waters and bless me with the inspiration of your energy and woman power. Thank you, Goddess of the Moon, She who walks the Night Skies, Protector of Women, Midwife of the Universe! ~ Kimberly Moore – Prayer to Ix Chel
Ix Chel asked for a pink candle as a reflection of our hearts. What is in your heart that hurts? That may be healed through Ix Chel’s empowerment? What Creation do you wish to bring to manifestation? For all women who are victims of abuse, have been victims of abuse and exploitation, I will be placing petitions to Ix Chel this week.
May I place a petition for you on her altar? Each is written out and placed around Goddess. On Saturday night, I burn them to carry the petitions through sacred smoke to Goddess’ heart. Leave a comment or, if you would like to keep your petition/prayer private, please use the contact form.
Blessings on your week and may Ix Chel stand with you in all of your moments of need!
More about the Goddess Ix Chel
Ix Chel (pronounced “eeshell”) is a Mayan Triple Goddess of fertility, waters, blood mysteries, weaving, healing, and medicine. Some stories refer to her as only Maiden and Crone, but after reading her stories from several sources, the three distinct aspects emerged clearly for me and the triplicity was revealed.
She is depicted as the White Goddess – Maiden of the Moon, She of the Pale Face who had opalescent skin that radiated the light of the moon. As the Maiden, she sits on the Mayan glyph for the Moo (in the form of the cresent moon), holding a rabbit (signifying the hare that lives in the moon and reproductive potential).
Ix Chel is the Red Mother or the Red Goddess. In the Mother form, she is also calledLady Rainbow and Weaver Goddess. Other names that are Ix Chel aspects are Ix Kanleom, the “Spider’s Web Catching the Morning Dew”, and Ix Chebal Yax. She is the Goddess who calls forth women’s blood (Goddess of Becoming) and stands over women as the Midwife in their births.
In her Crone aspect, Ix Chel is the Jaguar Goddess. Sometimes she is called Chak Chel (the Old Moon Goddess) and the Grandmother, Ix Mukane. She is filled with spiritual and medicinal knowledge and shown with a serpent on her head and wearing a skirt of crossbones. Her hands take the claw form of the jaguar. Chak Chel is also known as the Red Rainbow and for the ancient Maya, the rainbow came from the Underworld and was a sign of illness and death.
Ix Chel is a powerful Goddess for women to invoke. She is also the Goddess that comes to women in their time of need.
Off the shores of Cancun, you can still find remnants of Ix Chel’s temples on Isla Mujeres. Stay in touch with Anne Key and Veronica Iglesias for future Ix Chel trips and trips to Mexico. Sacred Tours of Mexico
