How can you bring your connection of the Goddess into your every day life? Sometimes it’s hard to know what you can actually, practically do to live and breathe your spirituality: we get stuck into thinking that certain activities, like meditation or ritual, are spiritual, and other stuff is not.
So untrue: the Goddess asks us to embody her love in the world and LIVE Her, as She is the essence of life itself.
Here are five simple ways to honour the Goddess in your everyday life!
Listen to yourself.
The way of the Goddess is the way of the divine within. As Goddess Folk, we know that the divine lives within all of us, and all of us have access to Her divine wisdom. We know that Goddess is not outside us, She is within us. A wonderful way to honour Her is to honour yourself: to pay attention to your thoughts, feelings, needs and desires, and not to discount them. Begin to trust yourself, and the Goddess will make Herself known to you.
Love your body.
Now, I know this is a tall order for some of us, as we have had a lifetime of conditioning telling us to hate our bodies, but, Goddess Spirituality is about honouring nature, the Feminine, and the way She expresses herself in the world. Part of that is reclaiming feminine bodies as holy, sacred, and totally fine as they are. To worship the Divine Feminine, a part of your practice is the revolutionary act of loving your body – even if it’s just a little bit at first. Everyone can find at least one thing they appreciate about their body – perhaps they appreciate their knees for keeping them standing, or their hands for enabling them to make delicious meals, or their ears for being able to hear beautiful music. The Patriarchy has told you you should hate your body. Don’t let the Patriarchy tell you what to do!
Support other women.
As a culture we tend to be far more acquainted with the shadow sides of the Feminine than the light. We have all sorts of shadowy female stereotypes created so we stay divided, not united: The Bitch, the Gossip, the Man-Eater, the Slut. This shaming of the shadow separates us from our sisters and fosters a culture of competition among women.
As a Goddess Woman, you can buck the trend and honour the Divine Feminine by honouring and supporting other women. This can be as simple as:
- saying nice things about other women to your friends instead of participating in mean gossip
- telling other women that you appreciate them (that they are a great mom, that they are doing a great job, that you are impressed with what they have achieved…)
- supporting films with female leads by going to see them at opening weekend at the cinema
- having a little compassion for that frazzled mom at the supermarket, or those bitchy teenagers on the bus.
There are a million different ways to support women: and supporting women is a powerful way to honour the Goddess.
Take time to enjoy Her nature.
The Goddess is often seen as Mother Earth, and She is inextricably bound up with the natural world around us. Nature gives us deep medicine: it invites us to be present, to see and smell and touch and experience what is going on in the natural world right now. Honour the Goddess by acknowledging that Nature is Her face: the wind, Her breath; the song of the birds, Her voice. Be awake enough to see Her in the landscape about you, take a moment to be present enough to feel into Her essence.
Invite Her into your life.
Let Goddess be a part of your life by inviting Her in! Pray to Her, tell Her what’s up, ask for Her help and guidance. Make space for Her in your life: create pockets of time where you can empty your mind and meditate, read Her stories, contemplate Her presence. It can be a wonderful symbolic practice to create an altar, as creating physical space in your life for the divine is a powerful spell that invites the Divine more fully into your every day existence.
