This morning I sat on the porch and watched Ma Luna ease her golden, gorgeous self down the horizon. Aurora was just starting to paint her light on the other side of the sky and the birds were singing them up and down. Watching the morning be unpacked by Goddess was a perfect way to start my Monday, steaming coffee in hand. I brought my cards and crystals and slipped right into my meditation practice as the sun finally woke up.
The cosmos are busy right now. We have four planets in Retrograde (Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, and Mercury) and they will be joined by Pluto on 4/20.
The Moon is Full in Libra at 208am edt on Tuesday, April 11. It is a Full Moon conjunct Jupiter – a good thing!
This is the first and only full moon in Libra during this Jupiter in Libra transit. This full moon reveals what we have been able to make of Jupiter’s effects on our lives thus far.
A full moon conjunct Jupiter is a blessing. In essence, it is a joyful jaunt through a lunation. An affirmation of all that we have been able to expand into and out of. Revealing the importance of opening up to optimism, outgrowing the old and moving into a greater faith in life’s ability to help us help ourselves. In Libra, this exploration is done in a beautifying style. An amenable approach. A harmonious and justice oriented tone. Chani Nicholas
This is also the first Full Moon since Spring Equinox and arriving during Passover and Easter week. Cue the themes of renewal, rebirth, and a balance of heart and mind. Libra likes things to be easy, balanced, and despite it’s social side, we Librans also have the ability to detach emotionally and retreat to our airy intellects. Detachment can easily turn into overthinking or analysis obsession, especially with Mercury having a laugh in retrograde.
Look for relationship issues to pop up, but (more importantly), how we relate to all aspects of ourselves. The Aries Sun injects a bit of “me time” contemplation. Venus and Jupiter retrogrades have been applying pressure for us to unearth our heart’s desire and set a new course (more renewal) for the passion that moves us, lights us up.
There is a Grand Square that is also increasing the cosmic pressure, but I love the play of Vesta in how it unfolds …
Actually, the Sun and Moon are aligning with the on-going T-Square of Jupiter opposing Uranus with Pluto squaring them both. This is big collective energy. It’s Vesta that draws it into a Grand Square. She represents our sacred inner self where we draw our raw sexual energy of desire from the lower chakras up into our hearts and focus it for a committed purpose. Dedication of this energy of sexuality and passion to a purpose that supports our heart’s desire is what’s being called out. Vesta tends that sacred flame that lights the inner sanctum within our hearts. Perhaps it’s dedicated to the goddess, to our art, to presence, to our hearth, to justice, to the transformation of society. When Vesta is such a repeated pivotal energy as it is here, it is a call to go within, seek out your intuition for guidance and clarity, to honor the sanctity of the center of your personal spiritual space. Exciting and occasionally frustrating energies are in motion. Take a deep breath. Fall back into your practices. Look before you leap. And enjoy the ride … it may rival Mr. Toad!
Our first card for the Full Moon Divination is Yamuna Devi.
Yamuna Devi is a Hindu River Goddess. The Yamuna River is the largest tributary for the Ganges River and is revered as the second most sacred river in India. The magnificent Taj Mahal sits on the banks of the Yamuna River which originates from a glacier in the Himalayas. Her temple, Yamunotri, still stands in the Himalayas and is a holy shrine of pilgrimage for Hindus.
Yamuna Devi is also known as Kalindi (the dark one) and in the Rig Veda, she is called Yami and is the first woman, Lady of Life, along with her twin brother, Yama, the God of Death, and also the first man. Her father is Surya, the Sun God, and her mother is Saranyu, the Cloud Goddess. From the earliest Vedic texts, she is connected not only to the river, but to the earth and this is reflected as her mount being a tortoise – a creature that is both water and earth as well. In later literature, Yamuna Devi is tied to Krishna. On the night of Krishna’s birth, his father carried him across the Yamuna River and Yamuna Devi created safe passage for that journey. Later, she is referred to as Krishna’s lover and sometimes even his wife and also as a consort of Vishnu.
There is a phrase that I saw when I was researching Yamuna Devi that has stuck with me: “Her waters are said to be the liquid embodiment of Shakti.“ (mahavidya.ca)
All along her journey from the glacier to the cities, Yamuna Devi provides life-giving waters, blessings, and the opportunity for purification within her sacred waters. Her liquid Shakti flows through everyday life, confirming “water is life”. She brings fertility and abundance to those on her banks, as well the ability to wash away the obstructions and impurities of her devotees. Mother Yamuna cleans, purifies, and renews her children in life and death and makes way for more love.
Yamuna Devi brings us messages of devotion, flow, and purification. She is at once the love of the Mother, the Beloved, and Devotion. Her flow brings us into deeper relationship with our inner wisdom and with Goddess/God. From the mundane to the celestial, Mother Yamuna carries us there.
What are the obstacles interrupting your flow? What do you need to release to take the next step to a deeper connection to self, guru, Goddess, God? The higher octaves of this Libran Moon are in perfect alignment with Yamuna Devi’s purposeful movement that takes us on a journey of our hearts and souls.
As soon as the Aquamarine Mala arrived in the post, Yamuna Devi laid claim to it. Aquamarine is one of the most powerful cleansing stones for the emotional body and communication (perfect to balance this Mercury Retrograde!). It also facilitates liberation from emotional attachments and brings old patterns to the surface for us to acknowledge and release. Aquamarine also strengthens connection and communication with Goddess. Jai Yamuna Devi!
Listen to Yamuna’s mantra below to activate the flow of this Goddess in your life now!
Turbulent times, challenging times, exciting times, require us to dig deep, call upon reserves that are waiting for us to activate the Fearless Warrior, the Warrior Within. She is fierce, protective, and aiming straight from the heart, and reminds us of our experiences, practices, and the unerring truth of our souls to stand up and face whatever comes.
She knows when to go to battle and, most importantly, when to offer compassion to those who would attack. Reflecting love, staying in the heart, and meting out kindness and compassion in the face of challenges is the greatest act of any warrior.
Feelings like disappointment, embarrassment, irritation, resentment, anger, jealousy, and fear, instead of being bad news, are actually very clear moments that teach us where it is that we’re holding back. They teach us to perk up and lean in when we feel we’d rather collapse and back away. They’re like messengers that show us, with terrifying clarity, exactly where we’re stuck. This very moment is the perfect teacher, and, lucky for us, it’s with us wherever we are. Pema Chodron
Fearless Warrior walks with us through the challenges, the obstacles, and helps us to return over and over to the heart. When I was meditating this morning with this card, I wanted to hold my Amazonite heart (in the pic with the cards above). Amazonite is a stone of Truth and activates the heart and throat chakras. It assists us in communicating the truth of our heart and accepts the strength from the Warrior Within.
As we work with our hearts in this Full Moon in Libra, I wish you peace, love, and harmony! Stay above the cosmic fray as much as you can and when you need a break, seek out some sacred waters (even those right in your bathtub!) and call upon Yamuna Devi. Apply liquid Shakti liberally and often.
