This month of September arrives with a grand cosmic flourish featuring the solar eclipse AND Mercury Retrograde. The New Moon in Virgo on September 1st is a solar eclipse, called a “Ring of Fire” eclipse (when a thin ring of sun surrounds the moon’s silhouette). The eclipse will be visible in the southernmost points of the globe: Southern Africa, the southern Indian Ocean, Madagascar, and Antarctic; it will not be visible from N. America. We can expect major global climate changes affecting our weather patterns due to the magnetic, solar and cosmic changes which occur during any eclipse cycle, but especially during those falling in earth and water signs. On September 16, the Full Moon is a lunar eclipse in the sign of Pisces (more on this in my upcoming Full Moon astrological newsletter). As we know all eclipses are “game-changers”, and where they fall in an individual birth chart reveals where a major 19- year cycle is climaxing and preparing you for the winds of change over the next six months. A Solar eclipse serves as an invitation to complete a chapter of our lives, as well as ‘initiate” a new beginning. Book your appointment now!
NEW MOON SOLAR ECLIPSE IN VIRGO, SEPTEMBER 1, 2016
A solar eclipse occurs when the moon stands between the Sun and the Earth, cutting off the light of the Sun. A solar eclipse is always a New Moon, although not all New Moons are solar eclipses. Solar eclipses mark a new beginning (as a New Moon), but have much more impact on our lives. An eclipse of the Sun will more likely focus you on a prominent male in your life (father, husband, boss, etc.). If a solar eclipse falls on or within 3 days of your birthday, you will certainly feel the effects of it. Keep your eye on your health if the eclipse falls on or near your birthday OR, if it occurs in the opposite sign (ex: Solar Eclipse in Virgo and your Sun Sign is Pisces). If an eclipse falls on your birthday, the year that follows certainly will be quite eventful. The area of your life (the natal house where the eclipse falls) is due for massive change. The element of surprise (the “wild card effect”) is usually present during eclipse periods. Most of the time, eclipses act as brilliant illuminators, revealing a “pre-existing” condition that has existed that you had ignored, or not noticed before. Eclipses often act as the catalyst to a major life decision. Without the news of the eclipse, we would probably go on as we had, with little or no change in direction. Eclipses also have a way of changing perspective. You are no longer in the dark.
The Solar Eclipse of September 1 falls in 9 degrees Virgo. Virgo is an Earth sign and rules analysis, discernment, and assimilation (both mental and physical). Virgo is the sign of the Mother Goddess, Isis. She nurtures and feeds us, and teaches us that the “body is the Temple”. On a personal level, this New Moon in Virgo eclipse asks us to focus on our health, our bodies and our work. Where have we been focusing our attention? Where have we become lax in our duties and personal responsibility? This is the perfect time to disengage from bad habits. Virgo is also a mental sign (ruled by Mercury) which teaches us to use our words carefully and precisely; words have power. The Greek work for “eclipse” means to “cease”. Find a routine that fits your lifestyle and stick with it. Taking better care of our bodies, the Earth, and her resources is no longer a whim of the “me” generation. It is now a necessity for life to continue on planet Earth. The counter culture “green” movements of the 1960’s will become the sustaining “new” paradigm of the coming years. Eclipses occur in cycles. The last solar eclipse in this cycle occurred on Sept 1, 1997. What was happening in your life then? Where are you ready to make changes now?
This New Moon Eclipse is in the Earth sign, Virgo. The ruler of the sign Virgo is the planet, Mercury, which rules our thought processes, language and communication. Virgo is also the sign of healers; it calls for us to be of service on the planet, but to also be discriminating in thought, word and deed. Translation: practice non-judgment, trust your intuition, and don’t believe everything you read or hear. Be aware of how you choose to express yourself. Whether you are a pontiff or a politician, words do matter!
If Virgo is your sun sign, or you have personal planets in the sign, (Moon, Mercury, Mars Ascendant), the themes of discrimination, self- analysis, and attention to detail are important for your growth and development. You need to avoid obsessive/compulsive thinking, or feeling addicted to perfection. Areas to monitor are your diet and digestion, especially in regard to food allergies. Virgos love to be of service, and you will find many working in the helping professions. Although they are often quiet in temperament, Virgos do have a way with words and make excellent editors and teachers. Their motto is “ God is in the details”. They also like to look and feel good, so they may be involved in the fashion and industries. Designers, models, crafts people, accountants, musicians (especially guitarists and violinists) often have Virgo prominent in their birth horoscopes.
MERCURY RETROGRADE: Mercury is retrograde in the sign of Virgo during the month of September (from Aug 30 to Oct 7). This is the perfect time for re-editing or re-designing a project. Restarting a stalled dietary or health regime makes perfect sense now. Internal and external “ housecleaning” really pays off this month.
Although, we have all heard about the effects of Mercury retrograde, this Solar Eclipse comes with an even more potent aspect known as a Mutable T-square. This is a challenging, “learning curve” asking us to change our old belief patterns now. The New Moon in Virgo is opposite Neptune (Pisces) and Square Saturn (Sagittarius). All of these signs are “mutable”, which means they affect our mental, perceptual range. On an individual level, as well as collective, we are being asked to “forgive” others and ourselves for past hurts. Guilt and judgment will keep us rooted to the past. We are approaching new frontiers in science, astronomy, physics and multidimensional reality. The old gods are moving on. Who wants to be stuck in archaic ways of thinking and go the way of the dinosaurs? Whether political, religious or economic, the old forms are changing. The “shadow” side of the Mutable signs is fanaticism and martyrdom. Freedom is a state of mind. Are you ready to step beyond the barrier of duality? Dare to see a future where your hopes and dreams become reality.
JUPITER: Jupiter, our largest planetary influence, changes signs from Virgo to Libra on Sept 9th. We will feel the benefits of Libra until October 2017. Balance and harmony in relationships (less judgement) and peace are the keywords for Jupiter in Libra. With the Moon and Venus (both representing the Divine Feminine Archetypes) and in close proximity (conjunct) to Jupiter during this Eclipse, we will really have the opportunity to “give peace a chance”.
I would like to take this opportunity to invite those of you who have been thinking about Egypt to return “home” with me this November. Whether you have already been to Egypt, or it is on your “wish list”, now is the time to go. Egypt is very safe, the US Dollar is strong, and the temples are still free of crowds. In addition to our deluxe night Nile cruise with Abydos & Dendera, we are offering a private retreat option in Luxor and Bedouin oases . Many trips are advertised, but for those truly dedicated to opening their hearts and minds to the Egyptian Mysteries, this is the one you have been waiting for. Registration is also open for our Shamanic Journey to Peru September 2016. Details for both trips can be found at www.pachaterra.com or Contactmlomando@bellsouth.net
