ASTROLOGICAL UPDATE: NEW MOON IN TAURUS MAY 6, 2016
All New Moons signify renewal, new beginnings; new seeds are planted for the month. This month’s New Moon falls in the Earth sign Taurus, which rules the five perceptual senses; our connection to the physical world, Mother Nature and our bodies. Its ruler, the planet Venus, teaches us about what we love and value most in life. Where is the “joy”?
Not only the Sun and Moon, but Mercury and Venus are also in the sign of Taurus. With such a preponderance of Earth signs, it is important that we take our bodies and our physical health seriously. Time for “spring cleaning” inside and out.
In ancient Egypt, the Goddess Hathor ruled over the sign of Taurus and the constellation of the Pleiades. Hathor taught all women about love, beauty and the arts. This New Moon falls very close to Mother’s Day; just as last month’s Full Moon was close to Earth Day. This is the cycle for opening our hearts and minds to Love.
You will feel this New Moon wherever you have the sign Taurus falling in your birth chart. Taurus is a feminine earth sign ruled by Venus; her motto is “Make love, not war”. The Moon in Taurus is your comfort zone; it is where you find your “security blanket”. The Moon in Taurus is represented by the Great Earth Mother, nurturing and safe. Taureans appreciate the finer things in life, and usually take great pride in what they create. Their artistic talents can be expressed through music, art, dance, fashion, architecture, and especially food. Because Taureans like to feel secure, they can also be very adept in the financial world of banking and real estate. They like to feel solid ground beneath their feet, and do best when they can spend time in nature, or at least a garden. Since this New Moon in Taurus falls on a Friday, it is the perfect time to indulge yourself in a massage; beautiful dinner; concert; or quiet weekend. Your mantra: “Home is where the Heart is.”
Planetary Pictures :
Five Retrograde Planets:
Mercury, Mars and Saturn are still in retrograde motion (see last month’s Full Moon update) as well as Jupiter and Pluto. This is a good time to review, re-edit, or reorganize anything that has been on “the back burner” before moving fast forward with plans. Patience is the Key. It is also the perfect time to let go of the old resentments and beliefs, which keep us stuck in the past. Separation, whether by religious, political or cultural stereotyping, will be overcome as more humans realize that we are co-creators of our New Earth.
Grand Earth Trine:
The New Moon, Venus and Mercury in Taurus now form a very positive aspect known as a “Grand Trine” with Jupiter in Virgo and Pluto in Capricorn. All five Earth signs denote determination, growth, and stability. Success follows due diligence . On May 9, Jupiter moves out of its retrograde motion , so any “big picture” projects that we have had on hold slowly move forward. The operative issue here is that we do not get stuck in old fear issues (especially fears about lack and failure); but continue to have faith in ourselves.
It is important to be flexible and to forgive ourselves and others for any perceived past “wrongs”. One of the biggest lessons of Taurus is self-love (not selfishness) tempered with patience. We now have the physical energy to move beyond past obstacles.
Mercury Crosses the Sun:
May 9th is an important astrological “breakthrough day”, as Mercury also makes a rare transit across the face of the Sun. This only happens a few times per century. The last time was 2006; the next will be in 2019. Mercury (known as Thoth in ancient Egypt and Hermes in Greece) is the god of wisdom and healing, symbolizing the synthesis of mind and heart. We have just gone through through two weeks of massive solar flares, which greatly affect life on planet Earth. This Mercury transit may be a long awaited “uploading” of solar consciousness .
