A WOMAN’S MOON CENTERS
A Key to Physical and Emotional Bliss
It is no secret that women are emotionally and psychically connected to the moon. It is no coincidence that more and more women are calling our periods, our moontime. In ancient times, before the advent of fluorescent lighting, women who lived and worked together would normally have their moontimes together. In some cultures, this evolved into what we now call “The Red Tent”, a tradition that has fast evolved into part of the movement for women to reclaim what we once had and lost, which must be regained.
The moon strongly influences a woman’s tides, just as it does ocean tides. We, much like the ocean, ebb and flow; the ocean ebbs and flows daily, we just do it every 28 days. The moon is all about magic and mystery, as is a woman.
While women are looked at and treated as inferior to males, according to the teachings of Kundalini Yoga, a woman is 16 times more intuitive, emotional, and sensitive than a man. While our bodies are affected by our chakras, our energy centers, as women, they are also affected by our moon centers, which are considered by some to be minor chakras.
A portion of our emotional and physical state is governed by these minor chakras. Within our 28 days cycle, we have a monthly rhythm which is deeply affected by these moon centers. Every 2 1/2 days, our energy, which relates to our emotional state, moves from moon center to moon center. The sequence and intensity of our own lunar vibrations will vary from woman to woman, but, once established, remains fairly constant.
The 11 moon centers, along with their influence when that particular center is active, are as follows:
Hairline/Arcline – This center is a halo and is all about what we see and the clarity of our vision. We feel balanced, focused and confident. We have powerful dreams, which may or not be prescient. You will feel outgoing and centered.
Navel – When the navel is activated is not a good time to make decisions of any kind. It is a time to stay quiet and activate the navel energy which breathing exercises and the pumping of the navel. Much of our power and strength comes from the navel. Meditation is a good activity for these 2 1/2 days.
Inner Thighs – These are very productive times, as you will feel connected and creative. That to-do list? Most likely, the chores on that list will get done as you will have boundless energy.
Earlobes – The earlobes are very sensitive and are directly linked to the brain. As women, most of us have at least one piercing in each ear; some of us have more. This is not always a good idea when this moon center is active. Take out those earrings and spend some time massaging your lobes. The left lobe is connected to the pituitary gland and the right is connected to the pineal gland, so your whole brain is engaged. The pituitary gland regulates many areas of the body, including, but not limited to growth, blood pressure and the thyroid. The pineal gland releases melatonin, which affects sleep. The pineal gland is also related to our third eye, the Ajna chakra, which is our point of intuition. Descartes called it “the seat of the soul”. When the earlobes are active, you will want to talk about the things that are most important to you, and will act according to your strongest values and principles.
Clitoris – This is when we are at our most charming. We want to dress up, have fun, get out there and socialize with others. You will be talkative, but not about anything of substance. It can work closely with the …….
Vagina – We feel at our most feminine at this time. We still may wish to dress up and socialize, but now we wish to do it with those to whom we feel the closest. There is a need for connection. Both the clitoris and vagina have the capacity to work opposite and our need for connection may be a connection to ourselves. If this is true, then go within to find that connection with meditating.
Back of Neck – Activity in this moon center will make you feel romantic, flirty and sexy. Things that normally would make you turn away, you now find to be “sweet”. Pay attention, though, and do not allow yourself to be taken advantage of.
Breasts/Nipples – This moon center is really an arc that flows out from nipple to nipple over your heart. That being said, when this center is active you will very heart-centered, compassionate and vulnerable. Keep strong on your boundaries as there will be those may wish to take advantage of your loving and giving nature. This moon center coincides with the Heart Chakra.
Lips – This moon center is very similar to the Throat chakra and like it, is all about communication. You will be very talkative, but not in a flirty manner, as when your clitoris center is active. Your words can be encouraging and loving, or not. Be very careful in what you say and the words you use, as you run the risk of not being very diplomatic.
Cheeks – Emotionality and sensitivity tend to be in the forefront when the cheeks are active. There is much power here, as this sensitivity makes us more open to our intuition and inner strength. Keep in control of your emotions by using your breath to stay calm and centered. The cheeks work with the hairline/arcline and you will feel and look radiant, as if you are glowing. This, too, is power.
Eyebrows – The eyebrows, believe it or not, are a very sensitive part of the body. The are a part of the parasympathetic nerve system, which slows the heart rate and increases glandular activity. These 2 1/2 days are ones of imagination and creativity. Our intuition is strong. This is a good time to get out into nature, or make a plan for the future.
Now, that you know what the moon centers are and what areas they influence, it is time to figure out which center your energy is in at any given time within your 28 day cycle.
One way is to just fully be aware of your body and its emotional states. Meditate and keep a journal to jot down how you are feeling, what you are thinking, etc. Compare these entries from month to month and you most likely will find a routine pattern emerging.
Another way is to use a pendulum as a divination method. Take a piece of paper and one one half write “YES”, and on the other, write “NO”. Hold your pendulum over the middle of the paper and focus on each moon center individually and ask for the answer. Remember to breathe and focus on the questions and the specific moon center.
You can also do this with a close friend. For one month, get together for a few moments each day and you can use the pendulum method over each moon center, looking for that yes or not answer.
If you use either pendulum method, it is still a good idea to keep a journal, noting the answers and then commenting each day similar to the “intuition” method. This will help you to be more aware and conscious of your behavior and emotional state.
The main center through which we receive lunar energy is through the chin, which men also share. While women have the additional 11 moon centers/chakras, the chin is the only moon interaction a man will have.
This link will take you to a Kundalini Yoga Meditation that will help you to balance your Moon Centers. Notice that the posture is such that your chin is resting on the floor. The mantra is “Sa Ta Na Ma”, which means:
SA = Infinity, Beginning
TA = Life
NA = Death
MA = Rebirth
May the Moon Shine Down and Bless You With Her Light!!
