Take a deep breath. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.
For many, March has been a challenging month and this is the purpose of the eclipse seasons in Spring and Fall – to challenge us; to catalyze forward movement even when we dig in our heels and hold on desperately to outdated energies and patterns. The New Moon brought us the solar eclipse and now we face the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse on March 23.
A penumbral/lunar eclipse/full moon in Libra will occur on March 23rd. A penumbral eclipse is less obvious and dramatic than a total or partial eclipse.
This is, however, the last eclipse in Libra for some time. Finishing up a 2 year stint of eclipses here, this last installment is sure to show us what we have learned, what we have come to understand about a certain area of life and what we are now ready to see through the eyes of experience. A Lunar Eclipse is like a Full Moon on steroids. There are sudden endings AND beginnings. Our emotions are soaked in Lady Luna, heightened and raw, but stay steady, the pay-off is worth it. Look for the AHA moments, the blasts of illumination that make us understand what the tangles, chaos, and all the feels have really been leading up to in our personal evolution. Reflect back to the New Moon and the intentions that you set – what has happened in the past two weeks in relation to those consecrated wishes? With this Lunar Eclipse in Libra, you may find that there are issues arising around relationships, finances, and creativity, although much of this depends on your personal chart.
The Spring Equinox (on March 20) brings in the light at the end of the tunnel. We are free to shed our outgrown energies and skins that no longer fit. Awakening and renewal is happening all around us and Goddess is supporting the gorgeous green shoots of new growth both within and without. Dig deep for the messages of the month and know that it has all happened to propel you more magnificently into your authentic self. (Re)Birth is never painless, but always worth it in the end.
I pulled three cards to guide us through the Full Moon and Lunar Eclipse. As always, the synchronicities bring us exactly what we need.
The Cretan Goddess Ariadne is the Goddess Card for the Full Moon – She who is “Most Holy” and “Goddess of Snakes”. Ariadne is the Mistress of the Labyrinth that holds not only the narrow, twisting corridors, but also her half-brother, the Minotaur. The hero Theseus only makes it through the labyrinth by Ariadne’s grace and guidance (and her thread and sword) and he is able to slay the Minotaur. They run off together, giddy and breathless, but when Ariadne next awakes, she finds herself alone on a beach and abandoned. Dionysos, the God of intoxication and ecstasy, finds Ariadne and falls in love. As a wedding gift, he gives her a cosmic crown that he throws into the heavens and it becomes the Corona Borealis.
The duality of Ariadne is the balance between the deep, dark heart of the labyrinth and the luminous crown of the cosmos. She is all of it at once and represents the energy of the Full Moon and the eclipse – the dark and the light, the despair and the joy. Ariadne assists us in unraveling our inner tangles and guides us on our path through the labyrinth of life. Through it all, we are pushed to shed the old, just like her beloved snakes.
Dance the spirals with Ariadne, request her divine guidance and then, follow her thread with radical faith. We can spiral up or spiral down, depending on how we allow the energy of challenges and life to inform and catalyze us into action.
Offerings to Ariadne may include an image or carved labyrinth, amethyst, selenite, lemurian seed crystals, honey calcite, blue aragonite, honey, representations of snakes.
Our oracle card for the Full Moon is Instincts. What better call to tap into the wild feminine soul of the Moon? Allow the urges of your inner visions to rise to the surface. Follow your heart sounds like a too often repeated cliche, but it is an eternal truth. We get lost in the labyrinth of Ariadne when we are ruled by our fears and our minds. Return to the heart and listen. Sync with your soft, animal self – what does it need? What do you need?
Sit with the moon and the eclipse with a journal, meditative music or chants, and ask for Ariadne, for Goddess and guidance. Automatic writing could be a powerful way to allow your heart a voice for this moon. Look to your dreams as well for the next few nights. Write them down even if it is a fragment. Art journaling (see image above) is a great way to tap into your inner messages. Collage and vision boarding are glorious Full Moon activities in a group or solo. Crystals that will enhance your lunar meditations and dreams are selenite, lapis lazuli, elestial quartz, and kyanite (all pictured with the cards).
Our tarot card for the Full Moon is the Eight of Pentacles from The Wild Unknown Tarot. The image is of an intricate web and Spider sitting at the center. Weaving our realities is possible and requires our full creative attention and commitment. Think of what Spider endures to build her webs; precarious positioning, exposure to weather, not to mention imminent threats of being squashed. And yet, Spider continues to spin, to weave, to flaunt her fragile creations for all to see. Can you be that committed to your creations?
Take advantage of the potency of the Lunar Eclipse Full Moon to super-charge your creations. Weave all of these messages together to see how it works for your life and where you are right now. Look back to where you were 19 years ago when this cycle began and think how you would like to see the next 19 years to unfold. Review the past two years and how you arrived to this moment? What would you do differently? How have you changed in the past two years?
The Full Moon Lunar Eclipse is bringing us information, divine messages, inner guidance. Your job is to sort, review, and feel the feels. Ride the lunar waves and when fear threatens to overwhelm, take refuge in Goddess and your heart. Seek clarity and, after the eclipse has passed, plan action on the information you have received. Lead with your heart – it is the most powerful tool that we have been given by Goddess!
Blessings on your journey and for the Full Moon!
