Happy Autumn Equinox! The Sun moved into Libra this morning (9/23) at 4:20 am eastern – my little natal sun alarm must have gone off because I was up and making coffee by 4:27 am. The balance of light and dark that occurs on the Equinox gives way to the tipping of the scales into the “dark” half of the year. Our focus becomes more reflective, the subconscious yields mysteries for us to contemplate, as we walk with the Goddesses of Harvest and Autumn. There is a shift of consciousness that happens on the Equinoxes and Solstices – a subtle preparation for the new season and all of its magick. Embrace it! Celebrate it!
This Sunday is a Super Moon Lunar Eclipse, the first of 30 years, happening in Aries on September 27 at 10:50 pm eastern. Which also happens to be my birthday! Talk about epic energy to celebrate – I will be hosting the Goddess Full Moon Group with Brandi Auset on the Full Moon so I hope that you will join us in community on this night of lunar magick!
The lunar eclipse on Sunday is the second this month; we had a solar eclipse that occurred on the New Moon. From Mary Lomando on the implications of this lunar eclipse:
A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth stands between the moon and the Sun, cutting off the light of the Sun from the moon. A lunar eclipse is always a Full Moon (with psychic exclamation points) and usually marks endings or “points of no return”. A lunar eclipse is usually an internal event, bringing up past memories, dreams, and emotions, rather than outer events. It is a time for releasing the past and moving forward. An eclipse of the moon will center more on the prominent women in your life (mother, wife, or female boss, for instance). If a lunar eclipse touches your birthday, it will be a year of closure, and possibly, of fulfillment. Often a lunar eclipse creates changes within the family or home: births, deaths, marriages/divorces and moving. The ancients believed that during a lunar eclipse, it is better to listen and observe rather than set forth ultimatums. If you don’t mean it, don’t say it. The situation could blow up in your face. Try to allow some space of a week or more between the eclipse and the date you act. Sometimes it is not possible to put things off, so do your best. You’ll have more information after an eclipse has spoken. Eclipses are especially effective in revealing someone’s character or true motivations. This person or situation may end at eclipse time because you have already learned a great deal from that person or situation, or because the situation is outworn, dysfunctional, or in some way no longer capable of being nurturing and supportive to you. Combined with the Mercury Retrograde, Pluto also stations direct in Capricorn, and as Chani Nicholas says: “there are squares galore this week”. Intense and challenging energy begins tomorrow with a mission. So, now, I want you to PA– USE. and BREATHE. I am sharing this information so that when the challenges arise or you feel like life has gone straight to hell, you can pause, breathe, and remember, this is just the cosmic weather this week. Shifts are happening, lessons are being handed out like candy, and we can choose to freak out or we can choose to center and stay calm. It is your choice and this choice may determine how the next 6 months to a year play out. Choose carefully and my advice is to choose calm, choose joy, and center into your practices. This is why we practice!
There are resources at the bottom that will help this week and next. Check them out and if you need some extra guidance, contact Mary Lomando for an Astrology reading that can explain exactly how all of this energy is unfolding in your chart.Knowledge is Power but don’t use it to have a meltdown.
Goddess is coming in strong for us this week with some definitive messages. Tap into Goddess and allow Her to be your center if you cannot find your own! Let’s see what Mamas stepped forward this week …
Eireen – Greek Goddess Peace and one of the three Horai – Goddesses of the Seasons. Eireen is frequently depicted with a cornucopia and torch, and sometimes as carrying the child, Ploutos, God of plenty and wealth. Her message is so simple and yet so difficult for many to achieve, “Peace. Peace within and without. Peace above and below. Peace all around.”
“Peace is joy at rest. Joy is peace on its feet.” ~ Anne Lamott
When the week feels chaotic and out of control, you are going to have to search for peace. Yank it out of the depths or appeal to the serenity of Eireen, but do what you have to do to bring peace into your life as a stabilizer and sanity-saver.What makes you peaceful? Is it yoga? Meditation? Walking in Nature? Laughing with the kids? Really question your commitment to inner peace. Does it feel far away because you don’t have enough of it in your life? Peace is not just chanting a mantra, or sneaking 5 minutes of meditation. It is a practice like all others that must be cultivated and mindfully activated. There is no time like the present – Peace Now!
Goddess Crystal – Ruby in Zoisite – Eireen wanted a more active stone to spur us into our practices and peace. Ruby in Zoisite gives us the lens of love and the heart opening to perceive the world as love. It pulls our thoughts into focus in our heart chakra so that every action is measured against our hearts. With great love, you cannot help but have great peace.
The Hindu Goddess Durga is riding into our week and lunation on Her lion with a beatific smile and weapons ready for battle. Her protection of those who seek Her is unending, as is Her love. With Durga standing by our sides, we cannot help but feel safer and more secure in who we are. She empowers us in our choices and in our actions (and non-actions) in this cycle. It is no mistake that Durga Puja comes with the New Moon of October where we celebrate the Nine Nights of the Divine Mother – we can begin now to invite Durga into our lives.
Durga’s message was like a clarion call, “I am here for your demons”. Durga was created to save the world from demons and She stands ready to battle and defeat them again and again. Demons can be the thoughts that give us stress and anxiety, our fears, anything that stands in the way of our soul liberation. Can you have a better ally than Durga?
I was called to share this prayer that I use to call upon Durga and ask Her to do battle with me …
A Prayer to Durga from Swami Amritageetananda Puri
Chamakam to Durgadevi
Give me the heart to love, my Mother
Give me the grace to smile,
Give me the patience not to hurt another
Even those who my name defile.
Give me the courage to walk with cheer
The slippery path of the good,
Give me the faith to live without fear
And act the way I should.
Give me the determination to rise again
Each time I slip and fall,
Give me the strength to bear the pain
It’s Thy prasad after all!
Give me the will power to fight and trounce
Anger, lust, jealousy and greed,
Give me the wisdom the finite to renounce
And steadily to Thy lotus feet speed.
Give me the knowledge that alone
Frees one from bondage and sin
Give me the light by which can be known
The pure, eternal Self within.
This is a reminder that we are never alone … never. We never have to do battle alone – Durga is always there in whatever form you choose to call on. Remember – She cannot help if we do not ask.
Goddess Crystal for Durga – Red Tiger’s Eye – This stone affords protection and the facilitation of tapping into our personal power. Red Tiger’s Eye is also a wonderful stone to work with in grounding your spiritual practice and providing a motivational energy to continue with it. It is a “demon” buster as well – Red Tiger’s Eye helps to release paranoia, fear, and feelings of vulnerability while strengthening the belief that you are powerful. The perfect Durga stone!
Transformation is the name of the game during eclipse seasons and with the Autumn Equinox. Butterfly Maiden brings Her gentle and persistent energy of rebirth and renewal for the next few weeks. She is a Hopi Kachina (spirit) and Goddess of Spring. Fertility, balance, and freedom within transformation are Her super powers. Her message for us is, “Fly with me!”. We can remain trapped in the cocoon of fear and chaotic energies or we can choose to burst through the cocoon and allow our wings to form. It all comes down to conscious choices and the Universe will not hesitate to follow your lead, so make positive choices that invite the transformational energy of Butterfly Maiden.
Goddess Crystal for Butterfly Maiden – Fluorite – Fluorite is a powerful calming stone and crystal of focus. I actually used it in the delivery room when I gave birth to my son. It taps into our genius and teaches us how to go with the flow. It combines the energy of the heart, solar plexus, throat, third eye, and crown chakras to bring you into alignment and embrace challenges with a calm, focused energy. The gorgeous colors and transparency remind me of Butterfly Maiden’s wings.
Tap this Goddess energy and take a deep, centering breath!
