New Moons are new beginnings. Our very own serendipitous jumpstarts every month, providing us with cosmic energy to support our intentions and manifestations. And all of that is true with this New Moon in Virgo on Sunday, September 13 at 2:41am eastern. Sort of. The addition of a Solar Eclipse intensifies the effects and long-term impact of this New Moon. Mercury in Retrograde (now in the shadow) is also coming to the party next week, bringing his own brand of chaos.
This New Moon and Solar Eclipse kicks off the “eclipse season” – the next eclipse is lunar and happens on the Full Moon in Aries on September 27 at 10:50pm eastern.
The eclipse on Saturday, September 12th at 11:54 PM PST at 20 degrees of Virgo is a solar one. During an eclipse, the light of the sun is diminished, obscured and confiscated (though not for those of us that will be experiencing it during night time). Life depends upon the light of the sun. We depend on the light of the sun. When that light appears to be threatened, so too are we.
We realize there are things we have no control over. Like the planets. Like our lives.
Life can become overwhelming. Archetypal. Eclipses relegate us to right size. In the grand scheme of the universe we are like the schmutz left on a dust mite’s shirt after she ate a bag of dust-chips. Schmutz that thinks it’s big news. Schmutz with Facebook pages and Tindr accounts. Schmutz that is convinced the world revolves around it. Read more from the awesome Chani Nicholas
Detailed and diligent Virgo is calling in focus on our bodies and health, careers and work. Opportunities for healing abound, as well as a laser focus on the areas of our life that need healing. Don’t fall into the over-thinking (and sometimes over-critical) aspects of Virgo. Stay centered and open to self compassion. Eclipses have long-term effects. The choices made and our actions over the next few weeks will set the stage for the next six months to year.
Healing. Our Bodies. Compassion. Illumination. Work. Faith. It’s a big week!

Solar Eclipse – New Moon in Virgo from Mystic Mamma
The Goddesses this week (as always) complement the cosmic weather forecast. When things become intense in your life, remember your spirit, your practice. Return to center 500 times a day if necessary. Use the tools that your path has provided and don’t get too attached to some of the wild energies swirling. The planets are always moving and we can know for sure that this too shall pass.
Adjust your crowns and make this week positive, powerful, and pointed to the intentions of your heart.
The Inuit Goddess Sedna has stepped forward with a reminder for navigating the energies of the next few weeks – Don’t be a victim. When the going gets tough, there is always a part of us that wants to take it personally; to feel like the Universe is against us. We fall into a rut and the deeper the rut gets, the more abused we feel and the more excuses we conjure.
There are several legends about Sedna, but the common thread in all of them is that She finds Herself about to be sacrificed to the sea and as She clings to the boat, Her fingers are chopped off. In some legends this is Her father and in others, it is the village people who are doing the sacrificing and chopping. When Sedna’s fingers fell into the sea, animals of the sea sprang forth from them: walruses, salmon, seals, and whales. Through Sedna, the abundance of ocean life was created. In this respect, She is a Goddess of creation and abundance, water and emotions. After being sacrificed, Sedna could have chosen to be a martyr instead of a creator. Sedna could have whined about Her horrible experiences and ignored the abundance around Her. She could have waited to see if someone else was going to come along and “fix Her life”. We have all been there, in that moment when we want to collapse into fear and victimhood and ignore the chance to stretch and grow. Stretching and growing is uncomfortable. It’s scary. This is the choice as you find eclipse themes coming up. Are you going to stay where you are and be a victim or are you going to take the leap of faith required?
Blue Aragonite is for Sedna and the reminder that you are in charge of your choices. The crystalline structure of Aragonite stores the vibrations of the sea and gives you access to the depths of oceanic wisdom. For those seeking more discipline (Virgo!) in their spiritual practices, Aragonite can also help give focus for that purpose. It is a stone that encourages clairaudience while also assisting you in finding your center and the answers within your own mind. Aragonite also has significant calcium content which bring healing energy to those with diseases and health challenges.
The Gnostic Goddess Sophia has also appeared for this lunation in all of Her divine serenity and knowledge. Sophia is Wisdom (capital W) incarnate – Holy Wisdom as Hagia Sophia. She is our intuition, our higher intelligence, the potent knowing that lives within us, and the Divine Plan unfolding before us. Sophia offers us the Holy Grail of Understanding … the ability to connect at higher levels and vibrations and to be an active co-creator of our lives with Her. Her mythology extends through every culture and religion. Sophia is the Great Goddess.
The counsel offered by Sophia for this lunation is that we are Sophia. We are Wisdom Incarnate. She is part of every fiber of our souls and beings. As Creatrix Goddess, She has woven Her radiance and inspiration into us and the world and we simply need to say YES to Sophia. Extra time for meditation and contemplation will be necessary in the coming weeks. How can we hear Sophia if we do not make time and space to listen? Sophia’s veils must be parted for us to access Her divinity within and without us. Invite Sophia actively, consciously into your life. She is the vital, enlivening part of our Soul – without Her, we would have no awareness or will to act.
I work with Sophia using Apophyllite and Amethyst. Apophyllite is a stone of spiritual healing and is a powerful healing stone in point form. It facilitates connection with Sophia and allows the user to become a channel for the Universal life force. Clarity, centering, and calm thoughts are all traits of Apophyllite and it may be activated to promote a deeper understanding and acceptance of Self. Apophyllite helps us to call back the energy that we have given away to others, working synchronistically with the healing presence of Goddess. Apophyllite also assists us in tapping into the Akashic Records, bringing us deeper understanding of our mission in this lifetime. It will naturally draw negativity from the stones surrounding it and regular purification with incense is recommended to clear it.
Amethyst is a stone of Transformation and Wisdom. When working with Amethyst, our auras are infused with a violet light. It taps into all of the extra-sensory abilities: clairvoyance, clairaudience, claircognizance, and more. Amethyst reminds you of your innate abilities and facilitate the activation of these gifts. Amethyst naturally clears negative energy and provides protection from psychic attack. Need to make a change in your life? This stone guides you to powerful transmutation that is needed while providing a gentle protective energy during your work and meditation.
Just in case we forget our power during this lunation, the Goddess Lilith has stepped forward. One of my favorite visions from a past personal working with Lilith is of Her standing in the surf of the Red Sea, wind blowing Her long red hair in tangles. The expression on Her face was one of calm defiance. Gone was the rage, the humiliation that makes up so many of the stories around Her. The elementals danced around Her in delight, reminding us that She was of the Air in the beginning before the beginning. Here was a woman, a Goddess, who has heard it all and been called every negative name in the book. Here was a woman, a Goddess. who raged and mourned and then gathered Herself together to stand tall and straight and beautiful once again. Here is a woman, a Goddess, that is the symbol of reclaiming our Women’s Power and surviving.
Lilith brings us the message of creative female force in the breath of Her beloved spirits of Air. In Her serpent form, She calls us to cast off the parts of our lives that our suppressing us. Through all forms, She invites us to stand with Her and to know that we are never, ever alone. In this lunation, Lilith is the punctuation to Sedna and Sophia. She fuels us to move beyond the pitfalls of victimhood. She stands naked, welcoming Truth and Wisdom, even when it’s hard to hear or acknowledge. Lilith is our Strength right now and the guts to keep putting one foot in front of the other. Get out into wild, solitary places. Let the winds blow through your hair, feel the breezes cleaning unneeded crap from your aura. All that is sovereign and solitary within us is Lilith. The hard choices and actions always come down to us, but we aren’t truly alone, because She has our back.
Turquoise is a stone that combines the energy of Sky and Earth – just as Lilith is Air and Earth – Sylph and Serpent. This stone validates wisdom and truth and allows for the knowledge from the cosmos to come into your awareness. Turquoise gives us the voice to speak Truth but from a grounded place. It also calms frustration and anger.
Connecting with these Goddesses in the reading gave me focus and clarity and I wish that they will do the same for you. Surf the energies of this lunation rather than getting sucked into the vortex. And be prepared for the unexpected – take surprises as portents from the Universe with a message just for you! Do a clearing, burning practice before the New Moon and then use the cleared space to craft your intentions clearly and deliberately.
Blessings of the New Moon!
Kimberly
