The New Moon last Friday was potent … activating … and potentially life-shifting. What intentions are bubbling and brewing in your cauldron of inspiration this week? You may find some assistance from the Goddesses who have presented this week to guide you in honing your goals and moving your intentions along to fruition.
Mid-week brings a boost for your projects and creativity which allows for action before we feel a bit stalled at the end of the week and through the weekend. Chani Nicholas gives us a great summary for the week and my very favorite weekly horoscopes.
The Sun enters Virgo on Sunday, August 23 and our focus shifts to details, the ideals of service, and “correct” action. Precise Virgo is a powerful ally in bringing big ideas into real world manifestation. Virgo is also the sign of the “virgin”, She who is whole within Herself. Sovereign and solitary Virgo is earthy and dedicated and represents an almost opposite shift from the influence of Leo.
All three of our Goddesses this week are heralding Virgo energy … the strength, the sovereignty, and Mercurial pursuits. Virgo is ruled by Mercury, making the mental processes and activities a focus, especially with Tara and Gayatri Devi and their influential mantras.
Let us begin with our first Goddess, Lady of Magic and the Depths – Lady of the Lake. She comes to us from Avalon and the Arthurian legends. At times She is called Nimue, Viviene, Morgaine, Morgan Le Fay, and by many other names. Intuitively and for those who have sought counsel and connection with the Lady of the Lake, we know She is High Priestess and King-Maker – an earthly representative of Goddess who brings Her enchantment to the sacred lakes and groves of Avalon. Part of the Lady of the Lake myth has Her bestowing the famous sword, Excalibur, on King Arthur which also gave him the power and right of Kingship. When Arthur died, She took the sword back and it remains within Her mysterious waters.
Lady of the Lake brings magic, enchantment, and a spiritual focus to our week. She is lending Her energy to those who are seeking to develop psychically, use herbal healing, and part the veils on their spiritual path. During my meditation, I saw Her eyes, calm and penetrating, and then I saw Her step onto a boat on the shore of the lake. She held Her hand out to me to join Her. When She spoke, She gave this message, “Are you ready to leave the shore of safety and enter the Mysteries?”
Connect with Her through tarot cards, channeling, dreamwork, guided and group meditation. For those needing spiritual counsel and guidance, there are few Goddesses more available than Lady of the Lake to provide insight and messages. Spend time near a lake or even use a bowl filled with water to connect with Lady of the Lake. The Isle of Avalon is also called the Isle of Apples and I find the scent of apples comes with Her presence.
In MotherHouse Goddess Shop, I have prepared a magickal Lady of the Lake Blessing Bag that will facilitate and enhance your connection with Lady of the Lake and your psychic development.
Tara is one of my MAMAS, as in one of my Ishta Devatas, go-to Goddesses. Her serene presence fills me up and I was delighted to see Her step forward this week for everyone. Om Tare Tuttare Ture Svaha!
The message from the card and from Tara is “Make Me Your Center”. An auspicious invitation from Green Tara who brings Her protection, blessings, and radiance to any and all who call upon Her.
The name Tara comes from the Sanskrit root “tri” which has two meanings:
- “to take across” – as in an ocean, a river, a mountain or a difficult situation. Tara is viewed as the Savioress – the saving knowledge.
- “a star” and “to scatter” as the stars in the heavens. Tara inspires our aspirations and leads the way as our heavenly guide.
There are also two passages in Tantric Yoga and the Wisdom Goddesses by Dr. David Frawley that I found particularly impactful:
“Tara is the feminine form of OM or OM personified as Goddess. Tara is the unmanifest sound that exists in the ether of consciousness, through which we can go beyond the entire manifestation. Tara is OM that has the appearance of the ether and which pervades the ether as its underlying vibratory support, but also transcends it. OM is the unmanifest field behind creation, which is the destroyer as well as the creator of the universe.”
“OM precedes all other mantras. Only through their connection with OM can other mantras be effective or be understood in their specific natures. As such, Tara contains within Herself all mantras, and only through Her grace can we come to understand and use them properly. Tara is perhaps the most important Goddess of mantric knowledge, the very personification of mantra Shakti.”
She is infinite in Her blessings and we simply need to make the space in our souls and our lives for Her to enter. Connect with Her in the space between sound. Reach out in prayer and devotion for assistance and blessings. Chant Her mantra or just play it during meditation and feel the Goddess Seed of Tara being planted in your soul. Soul healing, emotional healing, physical healing, wherever there is a gap or wound, Tara’s gentle, sustaining presence fills and soothes – just invite Her in as She has invited us to connect with Her.
Our third and final guiding Goddess this week is Gayatri Devi – the Mother of the Vedas, the Mother of Devotion, and a divine incarnation of the Goddess Saraswati. She is the physical incarnation of the Gayatri Mantra which is one of the most famous Vedic hymns/mantras and was first recorded in the Rig Veda (ancient Hindu scriptures) over 3000 years ago. It has potentially been chanted far longer than that as there were oral traditions in place prior to the writing of the Rig Veda.
Om bhur bhuvah swah
Tat savitur varenyam
Bhargo devasya dheemahi
Dhiyo yo nah prachodayat
The literal meaning of the mantra is:
O God! You are Omnipresent, Omnipotent and Almighty, You are all Light. You are all Knowledge and Bliss. You are Destroyer of fear, You are Creator of this Universe, You are the Greatest of all. We bow and meditate upon Your light. You guide our intellect in the right direction. more info here
Deva Premal sings the Gayatri Mantra beautifully and it is a mantra with which I often begin and end my day. Hear the Gayatri Mantra by Deva Premal here
Gayatri Devi has come into our week to remind us of devotion, of prayer. As we move through our days distracted by the mundane, She recalls us to the sacred and how to weave the sacred into our everyday. Through chants, prayers, mindfulness, and meditation, we can create the everyday sacred. Walking with Goddess in every moment can only elevate our spirits and experiences. For me, mantra practice has been life-changing and life-affirming. Gayatri Devi is calling you to find that practice that is life-changing and life-affirming. Allow the Mother of Devotion to lead you to a new practice, renewed interest in a previous practice, or an exciting avenue of exploration. Through Gayatri Devi, we also experience the knowledge and wisdom of Saraswati – now that is a two for one that is mind-blowing!
Listen to the Gayatri Mantra this week to begin your day, on a lunch break, or in the evening before bed. How does the chant make you feel? Does it evoke sensory experiences? What message is Gayatri Devi bringing to you this week?
The Enchantment of Lady of the Lake, the Centering of Tara, and the Devotion of Gayatri Devi are guiding you this week. May Goddess bless and fill your week with magick, mantras, and spirit!
