New Moon in Capricorn/ Winter Solstice Dec 21, 2014
This New Moon in Capricorn Dec 21 of 2014 ends the year with major impact, as it falls on the Winter Solstice at 0 degrees of the sign of Capricorn. Capricorn is the sign of “mastery” of the human condition by becoming fully conscious and aware of our karmic responsibilities. We cannot become “Teachers”, unless we are students first, who fully embody the teachings. We do not incarnate to suffer in the material world, but to fully realize the miracle of creative manifestation, which can only occur through life on the physical plane.
Capricorn is the cardinal Earth sign which signifies our connection to Mother Earth, our karmic lineage, and our roots. Capricorn grounds our energy; it allows us to build a solid foundation for the future. This is the time to manifest our true potential and seriously commit to our Soul purpose. Capricorn’s energy is not for the dilettante or the immature; it is the sign of Mastery, but we must be committed, focused and disciplined to achieve our goals. Capricorn’s energy teaches that if we “walk our talk”, we will succeed. Capricorn is the sign that teaches us self- responsibility, and that karmically, we evolve from children to adults.
In esoteric astrology, Capricorn is the sign of the Initiate, as well as the Adept. The planet which rules the sign of Capricorn is Saturn, also known as the “karmic teacher”. Saturn rules the concept of three dimensional “time” and physical boundaries. There are no short-cuts when we are under the auspices of Capricorn and Saturn. It is essential to understand the importance of “good timing”, as well as patience. But now we are also learning the secret of “no time”… how to “stretch” time and become more “in synch” with our multidimensional aspects.
Capricorn rules the physical support system of the body: our skeleton, bones, teeth, and skin. It is all about physical boundaries; where we claim our space as individual entities. It teaches us to take responsibility for our bodies in physical reality. The Capricorn lesson is that we cannot move into the accelerated Higher Mind frequencies of Aquarius or the universal Oneness of Pisces, until we stop mistreating our bodies and our Mother Earth. We cannot complete our spiritual work unless our bodies can handle the immense influx of energies pouring into this planet. Honoring our bodies as Temples of Light is essential now.
December 21st is the longest night of the year, and the Winter Solstice marks the “return of the Sun”, the rebirth of light and life. Humans have witnessed and celebrated this throughout the ages from Egypt to Stonehenge to South America. “Sol” or the Sun represents the god of Light in all traditions. In ancient Rome, December 25 marked the end of “Saturnalia” (Saturn), seven days of gift-giving and fire ceremonies (sound familiar)?
On December 21, we not only have the Sun and Moon, but three other planets joined in the sign of Capricorn: Mercury, Venus and Pluto. This is known as a “stellium” and means the Capricorn energy is intensified and multiplied.
Mercury and Venus in Capricorn will be highlighting relationships in our life, especially business and/or creative alliances. When Venus is in Capricorn, responsibilities concerning love and money become an issue; rethinking our commitments becomes a priority.
Pluto in Capricorn means that no stone will be left unturned getting to the bottom of things….secrets will be uncovered…. New archaeological and historical announcements may take precedence along with business and political scandals. Watch for the shadow side of Capricorn to emerge, which is all about the misuse of power and authority. We are living in an age when corporate giants can be brought down by dictators, and secrets of the rich and powerful become media fodder.
Capricorn rules power, government, and big business, as well as the “Earth”. As weather related crises continue world-wide, we will see news regarding a more ethical and diligent concern for global ecological concerns as direct result of the Greenpeace/Nazca Lines fiasco in Peru, (which ironically occurred during an international conference on Global Warming being held in Lima).
Uranus turns direct at the Solstice point. Tremendous breakthroughs or breakdowns are possible now. It is essential to use the Capricorn New Moon energy to remain centered and grounded, but above all, remain flexible to changes. There will be much high-voltage energy around this New Moon Solstice. The holiday frenzy may seem even more chaotic than usual. How can we cope with this as individuals? Take time out, no matter how busy you are, to have a few quiet moments to yourself. Chaos is “catchy”…so spending time on your own is the antidote. Take a walk, read, meditate….and remember this is the time of the year for turning inward and reflecting on what you wish to create for the future.
Saturn, the planetary ruler of Capricorn, moves into Sagittarius December 23 (where it remains until December 2017). The “boundaries” of what we, as free individuals, will accept as ethics, rules and the law will be tested to the max. As fundamentalism and fascism increases on a global level individuals will be compelled to rethink their belief (as well as their governmental) systems. We will hear more and more about the repression of human rights (by ALL governments) over the next two years.
If you are a Capricorn this month is a big one for you. You may be in the process of completely changing major aspects of your life, or important people in your life. Capricorns are not afraid of power, but they generally do not like change. It’s good to remember that change is not necessarily disruptive; it can be exciting and life-affirming. Your need to create, shape and direct your energies into tangible results make you extremely alert to opportunities and how to utilize them. (This can be described as the famous Capricorn ambition at work.) This New Moon will bring a tremendous potential for growth and opportunity. You may even get a new “mission statement”. The other cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) will also be feeling the Grand Cross “pushing the envelope” for change. So, take a deep breath, and know that you are consciously co-creating your reality.
Have a Blessed and Joyous Holiday!
