This New Moon is especially potent as it falls within 48 hours of the Autumn Equinox (karmic balance between the light and the dark). The world picture right now, as it is reflected in the third dimension, reinforces the collective (and individual) lessons to be learned regarding peace vs. war; aggression vs. diplomacy; male vs. female; and “us” vs. “them”. On a global level, we will see that there is no “safe” corner in which to hide; on a personal level, there is no going backward. Genocide and atrocities committed in the name of tribal patriarchy cannot regress humanity back into the dark ages. Words do have power and using the sacred and magical name of Isis as a code for terror is as diabolically manipulative as using the ancient Sanskrit solar symbol as the swastika of Nazi Germany. However, if we, as humans, are committed to manifesting a New Earth where all life is sacred, it is time to step out of the shadows and declare our intention for the Light, Peace, and Balance in all our relationships.
Every New Moon is a “birthing” of light, which gives us the opportunity to plant new seeds; to begin anew; to shine the light of consciousness into the void. This New Moon at 1 degree of Libra will allow us to see our relationships in a new light. Balance, partnership, and co-operation are the Libran code. As our country now faces karmic choices on a collective level, it is imperative that we look into our own individual relationship choices. For if we accept mediocrity and victimhood in our personal lives, how can we possibly expect to have leaders that treat us differently? Everyone wants to be loved, but where are we out of balance? How have we allowed fear to dictate our decisions? Are we the “bully”? Are we addicted to sexual relationships? Are we capable of loving ourselves? The sign of Libra teaches us that we are never alone in the universe; we are in a constant dance of co-creation with Spirit. Libra is ruled by the planet Venus, the planet also associated with love, beauty and partnership. In Western astrology, the symbol for Libra is the scale; it is the only glyph that is an inanimate object showing that, in its ideal state, the air sign, Libra, “balances” mental discernment with love. It is the sign that follows Virgo’s sense of perfection and precedes Scorpio’s intensity and passion. Libra excels in diplomacy, social graces, the arts and aesthetics. The “shadow” side of Libra can be eternal procrastination, fear of commitment and the blame game. It is time to “own” the shadow projections.
Just a few hours after the Equinox, the planet Pluto turned direct. The Plutonic archetypal energies of rebirth through destruction are intensified over the next few weeks. At the same time intense solar tides and grand galactic waves of light continue to propel humanity forward. Kicking and screaming, we are being impulsed to release and forgive the past, although it is a herculean effort, at best. “Forgiving” is not the same as “forgetting”. When we make the conscious choice to move beyond the past, rather than reacting purely from ego and fear, we allow the space for our perception to shift. Toxic emotions are dense and weigh us down. Find a way to create peace and harmony in your life. For as the Egyptian initiates were taught “your heart must be as light as a feather” to be truly reborn.
“It is not enough to be compassionate. We must act”. (Dalai Lama)
Because Libra is ruled by Venus, we find many writers, musicians, dancers, designers, artists and models born under this sign. Since they have such well-developed “people skills”, Librans also make excellent diplomats, negotiators and counselors. Individuals with strong Libran planets can be very charming; they are the “social butterflies” of the zodiac. When Librans are out of balance, they often become overly dependent on others and may have difficulty making their own decisions. Although they have many friends, they have difficulty with dealing with their own emotions. Psychologically, this may result in passive/aggressive behavior with close partners, as they are not comfortable with personal confrontation. (Aries, the god of war is their opposite sign; and therefore, Librans can project their anger outside themselves, but have trouble owning it. They function best when they can channel this energy into an artistic or intellectual pursuit (many writers and poets are Librans). The part of the body ruled by Libra is the kidneys. It is important for Librans to drink lots of water to flush out toxins. Sugar and excessive amounts of caffeine should be avoided whenever possible. Also learning how to channel anger and repressed emotions is important for their physical (as well as mental) well-being. Acupuncture, yoga, Chinese medicine and herbs can help support a sluggish adrenal system. Librans do have a strong sense of “fair play” and a social conscience to match. Some famous Librans are John Lennon, Gandhi, Bill Clinton, Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Michelangelo, Eleanor Roosevelt, Donna Karan, and Emily Post. Where you find the sign of Libra in your horoscope (by house placement, as well as any planets in the sign) is where you find your “heart”. This is where you find what you love; what makes you happy; your personal sense of style and aesthetics; and how you “play” with others.
Mercury in Libra: Mercury is the planet of communication and is now the sign of Libra signifying the need for balance and cooperation in our thinking patterns. It is necessary to create balance and harmony with our words. Diplomacy, cooperation and partnership can make inroads where brute force cannot.
Saturn in Scorpio: Saturn, the “Great Teacher” of the zodiac will remain in the sign of Scorpio until December 2014. Scorpio rules money, power, corruption, and Saturn demands that we face the truth, no matter how unpleasant. There will be no more secrets. Knee jerk reactions of denial, suppression, and blame will no longer suffice. Once again, facing our own shadow (jealousy, greed, and betrayal) is a necessity for moving forward. As we clean up our personal emotional dump sites, we also clear the energy for change to occur in our collective reality. The “powers that be” (Saturn) can only be called to take responsibility for their actions, (whether it is big business, government, or religions), when we reclaim our voices as empowered individuals. Saturn rules the Laws of Karma, and all hierarchal structures must undergo a complete annihilation (Scorpio) before they can be reborn. Saturn is the planet of Mastery on the physical plane; and Scorpio in its highest level is Mastery of the desire nature. (more on this next month with the New Moon Eclipse at 0 degrees Scorpio and how to access these “gateways” to higher consciousness).
The Sabian Symbol for the New Moon at 2 Degrees Libra: “The transmutation of the fruits of the past experiences into the seed realizations of the forever creative spirit; a repolarization of inner energies.
In the ancient Egypt of 5,000 years ago, the original symbol for the sign of Libra was the sun rising over the hilltops. However, Libra has come down to us through the ages as being represented by the glyph of the scales. In ancient Egypt, the Goddess Maat is the Goddess of Truth, Justice, and Right Balance (Karma). She is the Goddess who oversees the “weighing of the heart” of the deceased on the karmic scales. The heart is weighed against her white feather of truth, and the heart must be found lighter than the feather, in order for the individual to pass on to paradise. Maat was not born from another god or goddess. She has been around since the beginning of creation as the principal of cosmic order; she is consciousness itself. Even the Sun God, Ra, lives by the cosmic order of Maat. From Maat, we learn the concept of inner balance (male/female, yin/yang), which becomes the hallmark of Libra.
