Happy Summer! This New Moon immediately follows the Summer Solstice; the time of the year dedicated to more light, more joy and the celebration of life. In esoteric astrology, the sign of Cancer is ruled by both the Moon and Neptune, and reflects our psychic connection to the akashic records and past life memories. What a wonderful time to gift yourself a karmic astrology reading (Summer Special still available)!
ASTROLOGICAL UPDATE FOR NEW MOON IN CANCER: JUNE 27, 2014
The New Moon of June 28 is in its home sign in Cancer, the cardinal water sign which rules our emotions, our connection to our physical mother, as well as the archetypal feminine; our astral memories, our ancestral lineage and the Earth Herself. Esoteric astrology teaches that it is in the sign of Cancer that we emerge from the safety and security of the cosmic womb and give birth to ourselves as the Divine Child. This is a time for dreaming and taking the time out to nurture ourselves, as well as others. Cancer is the sign most associated with the archetype of the Great Lunar Goddesses who nourish and protect life: Isis, Ceres, Quan Yin, White Tara, White Buffalo Woman, Mother Mary; all are faces of the compassionate Mother, who unconditionally loves her children and heals all hurts. This New Moon in Cancer symbolizes a return to the feminine consciousness: the embracing life; the healthy expression of our feelings, and compassionate acceptance of all sentient beings. Cancer is the quintessential water sign; it is the womb of life; the pure spring from which all intuition and creativity flows. Cancer is the symbol for matriarchy; it rules the clan; the tribe; the family. The indigenous peoples of this planet truly embody the teachings of Cancer: that everything in the physical world must be honored: our bodies; our emotions, our dreams; and that all life forms are inter-related. Western logic and rationalism can only take us so far. Whether we are born into a male or female body, it is important to develop our emotional range and honor our intuitive abilities. Without a collective vision and the emotional depth to midwife it, we remain stuck in the matrix. This New Moon in Cancer asks us to move out of the infancy stage of parochialism and birth ourselves as citizens of the new era. It is no accident that the holy month of Ramadan begins with this New Moon. There can be no real harmony on this planet, until the feminine is honored and respected. May the love and compassion of the Great Mother protect all her children and allow them to find peace within themselves.
New Moons are always a time for planting seeds for the next cycle. If you are a Cancerian (or have important planets in the sign), this is your personal New Moon and a time for creating new opportunities and emotional balance in your life. Where this New Moon in Cancer falls in your natal chart by house and aspect will reveal where your emotional “homework” will be over the next 2 weeks until the Full Moon. What would you like to “midwife” in your own life right now? Better relationships? A creative project? More abundance? Improved health? Recognizing that your emotional security stems from inner harmony and balance is a key ingredient to attracting positive scenarios in your life.
With Cancer, the metaphor of the “garden” is an apt one; for Cancer is the sign of fertility and new growth. What types of seeds will you plant in your garden? How will you protect and nourish them? By the time of the next equinox (Sept 21), you will see the fruits of your labor. This New Moon may also bring up emotional issues with women or family, and/or people from your past (especially since Mercury is still retrograde until July 2nd). Being open to feeling and expressing our emotions, but not over-reacting to them is the lesson now. Part of our collective process now is to detach from the dysfunctional emotional patterning of our past lineages familial, cultural, and religious), and move towards embracing the ideals of “liberty and justice for all”. It is true that with freedom comes responsibility… the self-responsibility to face our own shadows and not to “scapegoat” other races, creeds, or genders.
This New Moon in Cancer still forms the wide Grand Cardinal Cross involving 5 planets: the Sun, Moon, Uranus and Pluto and Mars signifying major “breakthroughs” or” breakdowns”. The past two weeks, we have been experiencing intense solar flares and magnetic anomalies resulting in extreme global weather patterns. Things are definitely being shaken up! As I have pointed out previously, the USA is a Cancerian country (born on the 4th of July) so the basic themes of immigration, unemployment, housing, food production and natural resources will continue to be major issues until well into 2016 ( and the next presidential election). The message of the Grand Cross is that new solutions, new thinking and new visions are necessary to resolve our personal and collective problems. Why reinvent the wheel, when we can fly?
Saturn in the fixed water sign of Scorpio is in a wide trine (very positive aspect) with the New Moon in Cancer and Chiron (the wounded healer) in Pisces. This brings up “sticky “emotional issues regarding sex, power, war, money…and…secrets! Chiron’s influence (the archetypal healer/shaman) indicates that humans have the potential to finally move past old karmic “wounds”, especially those that have had to do with the imbalance of male/female energy on this planet. Jupiter at 26 degrees Cancer squares the lunar nodes in Libra/Aries also indicates urgency for rebalancing the masculine/feminine polarities. Waging war in an effort to gain peace is as pointless as it is absurd. The sacred name of ISIS being used to invoke fear in the very lands that once belonged to the Goddess is just one more desperate bid for power by the “dark” attempting to subvert the light. It has taken 13,000 years to move from the Ages of Leo into that of Aquarius. Hopefully, humanity has learned that patriarchal repression, fanatical genocide and war in the name of “righteous” dogma can no longer be tolerated. The “shift” into an enlightened perception is upon us; all we need to do is open our eyes.(For more on Chiron, see Barbara Hand Clow’s “Awakening the Planetary Mind”, Bear & Co, 2011)
.Mercury is still retrograde until July 2nd. (See last month’s newsletter for more on the Mercury retrograde in Gemini/Cancer). Important documents should wait until after July 2nd to be signed. Mercury moving into the sign of Cancer is a writer’s configuration, especially if you are writing about feelings, memories, genealogy, history, etc. With all the texting, tweeting and instagramming going on these days, the fine art of writing may become a thing of the past. As an experiment, try writing a letter to someone you love, or even sending a personal birthday note, rather than a generic email card. It is amazing how therapeutic (and fun) writing from the heart can be!
In ancient Egypt, the birthday of Isis was considered the most fortunate day of the year, and was celebrated in preparation of the rising of the star Sirius and the flooding of the Nile. Isis and the star Sirius were one. Isis is considered the Great Mother who is both Queen of heaven and earth. She brought civilization, magic, and the arts to mankind. Her Egyptian name Auset means “throne”, and her crown is symbolizes the throne of Egypt for Egypt is born from her womb. All the succeeding queens of Egypt were also High Priestesses of Isis. On this New Moon create your intention to weave more magic into your life and celebrate your joy.
