As we celebrate Winter’s Solstice here in the Northern Hemisphere and shortest day of sun light of the year, Peru is experiencing it’s longest day of light and the Summer Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere.
Thousands of spiritual seekers from all over the world visit the amazing crysal citadel of Machu Picchu, one of the World’s 7 New Wonders of the World, to catch the first glimpses of the solstice sunrise as it peaks over the mountains. The solar observatories and temples were created to honor the natural cycles of the sun- INTI, the moon-QUILLA and the stars-CHASKAS. These amazing observatories and temples were built of perfectly laser cut granite and crystalline blocks and stone. Can you image the astounding beauty of the sun’s rays as they perfectly align and illuminate the city’s Sun Gate on the solstice morning? Breathtaking!
Within the city is one of the only remaining intact Intihuantanas in the Incan Empire. This stone – the “hitching post of the sun” – is thought to be the astronomical and agricultural calendar, the ancient civilization utilized for their intimate connections with Pachamama and the Universe.
Deep in the cloud forest of Peru, Machu Picchu is only accessable by train, horseback or foot on this day! Reportedly home to the ancient Inca, Machu Picchu was a site that housed the Incan royality at the height of their civilization and is now a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Join me in March 2014 for your spiritual vision quest into the Andes and Amazon of Peru, and a once in a lifetime visit to Machu Picchu! Details coming soon….
