This New Moon falls at 11 degrees in the sign of Sagittarius, the fire sign symbolizing humanity’s “quest” for higher truth, wisdom and spiritual consciousness. The sign of Sagittarius is represented by the mythological Greek centaur (half man’ half horse, symbolizing the integration of reason and instinct) and holds the arrow of Truth. How we structure our personal belief systems, whether based on religious, political or cultural ideologies, comes up for review at this New Moon. It’s time to ask ourselves what we really believe in. Are we slaves to consumerism, technology, and Madison Avenue hype? Do we believe in giving thanks 365 days a year, not just one? Is our connection to Spirit a full time commitment; or do we just pay it lip service? Do our political and philosophical views actually reflect what we actually think, or do they merely regurgitate what we have been “sold” as the Truth? Have we felt deeply connected to anything lately (especially nature). Or do we mindlessly exist within the “matrix”?
This New Moon falls just after the Thanksgiving and Hanukkah celebrations. Fire is optimistic, enthusiastic and spontaneous; it burns away the dross. It is Spirit energizing Matter. What does it take to make your Light shine brighter in the world? Like all fire signs, Sagittarius is about the potential to create. Plant your seeds during this New Moon and set the intention for what your life would look like if you replaced fear and judgment with faith and forgiveness Now is the time to have the courage to speak your Truth; allow others the right to express theirs, and leave the world a better place for having lived in it!
This is a relatively quiet month astrologically after the power packed eclipses and Mercury retrograde of the past two months. However this month, we have two major aspects that will trigger the past eclipse points, especially in terms of personal and intimate relationships.
Mars will enter Libra on December 7th (Libra is the sign of relationship) and remains there until January. Mars can be troublesome in relationships; we may have to compromise and pull back when our ego says “push”. As people around us seem more irritable, cranky, and out of control, our lesson here is to be the diplomat, not the bully. Venus (the planet ruling love and relationships) turns retrograde with the Winter Solstice on Dec 22nd (more on this later with Full Moon update), and it remains retrograde until January 31, 2014. Venus in Capricorn is very reserved and practical. Finances (as they relate to personal relationships and partnerships) may take precedence over warm and fuzzy feelings. Venus in Capricorn says “I love you” with dollar signs, not hugs. We may end up spending more during the Christmas holidays than we intend. Also, gifts that have a more traditional lasting value (Capricorn) win out over the latest fads or gadgets. Venus retrograde also brings people and relationships (especially in business) back into our lives. If you are planning a Christmas engagement or wedding, Venus in retrograde may not be the most optimal time, unless you are restating your vows or marrying an old flame.
The planet Uranus (change/revolution/new ideas) is in the fire sign of Aries and makes a positive aspect with the Sun and Moon in Sagittarius. We may see some brilliant leaps forward in scientific, political, and yes even religious ideologies as the fire of inspiration and optimism (Sag) meets the courage and idealism of Aries. One can only hope!
As the quintessential fire sign, Sagittarius values freedom (personally, intellectually and geographically) above all else. “Don’t fence me in” is the Sagittarian motto! If you have personal planets in the sign (Sun, Moon, Ascendant) your major learning curve is balancing how to be true to yourself and still maintain satisfying, healthy relationships. It doesn’t matter whether you are male or female, Sagittarians don’t do “clingy”; but they excel at humor, fun, and adventure, so they very rarely lack for partners, unless they choose to. The sign Sagittarius is ruled by the planet Jupiter, which is expansive, philosophical and larger than life. The film, “Eat, Pray, Love” (and not necessarily in that order) nicely captured the Sagittarian’ zest for life.
This Sagittarian New Moon emphasizes the need to stretch out of your comfort zone into something new….expand your horizons…learn…read…travel…experiment ….the key is to open your mind, not close it. We are never too old to experience something new. Keeping your body active keeps your mind active. Not all of us can leave our responsibilities behind and hop on a jet plane to a foreign land; however, no matter where we are (even in the coldest climates), we can connect with nature. Go out into your back yard; take a walk; open a window and breathe some fresh air…look up into the starry night sky and imagine we a made of star stuff!! We are ALL spirits choosing to inhabit the illusion of a material world. Sagittarius is also the sign that follows its own intuition and inner guidance. During this New Moon, take the time to connect with your Spirit guides, power animals, Angels, Star Councils, Higher Self…the Messages are there for you; just be open and listen.
