Autumn is always a reflective season for me and October is really when the Autumn Season comes home. The boisterous, sunny energy of summer yields to softer moments; leaves bleeding from green into vivid, Autumnal rainbows, crisp winds bring the promise of winter. While many think of summer as an outdoor season, I prefer walks in Fall. To be present in Nature as she sheds her coverings and prepares for hibernation, is to witness an awesome shift.
My consciousness has begun the sifting process of analyzing the year and how to make the best use of the remaining months. My birthday just passed and I love my 40’s. I turned 44 and there was none of the angst that I had with some birthdays in my 30’s. Even though I live in sunny climes and Fall does not really make an appearance, my inner clock, my inner consciousness is attuned to the Universal patterns that are hearkening winter’s hibernation. I watch the clouds float by for a few extra moments, I curl up with a book on the couch and I am tending to my writing and journaling more.
Foods and eating habits are shifting too – pumpkin is a weekly adventure along with other gourds of the season. While many markets carry vegetables all year, to taste some of my favorites during their season is optimal. More soups and stews and roasts begin appearing and the salads of spring and summer are replaced by harvest plates and dishes. My body instinctively knows that the season is shifting and my avocado toast of summer has been replaced with warm cereals.
Samhain approaches and with it the remembrance of those who have passed on and thoughts of ancestral ties. I am shifting my altar spaces to reflect my Ancestors and acknowledge the time of the Dark Goddess who will carry us through winter. A few weeks ago, I had a burst of furniture moving energy and switched bookshelves around and began packing some things away into the closet – moving energy and focus in the house.
Even now, as I sit writing this, the late afternoon light is falling golden on my desk – the white hot burn of summer sun has faded. And the most amazing part of today, this moment, is my contentment. I am blessed, business is busy, friends are close and my life is thriving. I am blessed and I wish that for you in this Autumn Season as well.
