As we sat down to plan out the editorial calendar and content for the MotherHouse Blog, Self Care was at the top of the list. It has become a real buzz word lately but, really, what does it mean?
For me, Self Care is about mindfulness and care not only of my mind and my spirit but of my body. It is thinking about what I am eating, it is resisting the carton of chocolate ice cream at 2am, and it is giving myself permission to turn off and breathe (very challenging for me!). Funny enough, when I really analyze “self care”, things like massages or pedicures or shopping expeditions do not figure in. Self care has more of an inner focus for me – what do I really NEED right now, deep down and not just on the surface. Shopping is a blast but after, I still have a need deep down that is unfulfilled until I seek it out, identify it and make friends with it. Sometimes, it is walking in nature. Or a nap. Permission to relax and rejuvenate is hard for me and hard for a lot of women. Self Care also takes the form of being gentle with myself when I falter and also pushing myself to make the hard or uncomfortable choices when I need to move forward.
Most importantly, in the end, Self Care is looking in the mirror and smiling at myself and inviting joy into every aspect of my life. Self Care is a process, a journey, an adventure and the tiara on your Inner Goddess. Make it glittery and add extra sparkle – you are wonderful!
Embodying YOU stands for our wishes on your Self Care journey that you may personify, realize, manifest, symbolize, represent, express, concretize, incarnate, epitomize and EMBODY all that you are Truly. That you become Unhidden in this journey of Self Care.
